A great Google Earth tool on the website of the UNEP-WCMC:
The KML file provides the boundaries of all natural and mixed WHS.

This is great, I'm trying to pick it apart to use it at work, but it is pretty useful anyway.

Does anybody know if the info is correct? If I look at it now the Tiger Leaping Gorge trail is inside the "Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas" whs, which would mean I have checked a whs without knowing it ;)

I think from that Tiger Leaping Gorge forms the South Eastern boundary of the Haba Snow Mt. area. And looking on Google earth the trail is on the north-west side of the gorge and therefore is inside the WHS.

So congrats, another visited site it seems :)

I am afraid I am not yet convinced about Haba Snow Mountain and Tiger Leaping Gorge.

"IUCN considers that the amendments to the Hongshan and Haba Snow Mountain sub-units of
the property should not be accepted as a minor modification to the boundaries of the property"

I hadn't seen those maps before.

They do suggest that the Haba Snow Mountain doesn't stretch down to the river.

The IUCN map on the Google Earth tool show the river as being the boundary of the area and thus the north western banks are inside the inscribed area. Though I guess as both banks of the river are not included the Tiger Leaping Gorge as whole is not inscribed.

I just notice the appendix in the AB report that has the boundary changes.

I will have a look over that in a bit and see if I can make full sense of it.

I have not checked the new sites yet, but it's great that the tool has been updated so quickly.

I just had a look and they all seem good, and for those that I mapped they match the t-list locations, so I'm happy. I didn't realise how remote the Lena Pillars were, though they seem almost urban compared to the Lakes of Ounianga.

This is a great little map though, really useful.

Does anybody know, when the newly inscribed sites (cultural and natural) will be included into the KML-File provided by the UNESCO? When I download it, they do not appear on my GoogleEarth so far...

Hi JonasK, alas it still isn't updated, it normally takes a couple of months.

I'm not really sure what takes so long as they have all the information they need for it, and the IUCN map which is more detailed has already been updated already.

Perhaps there is room to recruit a freelance mapper with an interest in WHS :)

I look for updates fairly regularly so if it is updated soon I will leave a note here.

... and still waiting :(

Perhaps they don't update that list any more.

Does someone know about the actual status of the UNESCO World Heritage App? I don't have an iPhone to check it.

I guess they have just given up on this years one.

I've started creating my own version, but have only done it ad-hoc. When I get a something finished I may see if Els can post it here. Can say when it will be ready though as I have a busy few weeks ahead (the Pas de Calais mining inscription is massive, so it may just be a compromise location for that one).

No idea on the i-phone app, my phone barely makes calls.

i have the i-phone app, it's pretty cool but there is not a map, not even map by country with the site listed. so i've ordered the "De Agostini" world Atlas from Unesco website, it's wonderful, with all 2013 sites. Of course it's gonna be old in few years, given the trend of 25-30 new sites per year (which makes it impossible for any of us to see them all!)
few features of the i-phone app: the sites can be sorted by A-Z index, by year inscribed, by Country, by classification of site (Cultural, Natural, Mixed), by Region, by Favourites (you can your own favourites when you see them), by "Recently Viewed", by "Visited Sites" (of course you can make the count exactly like on this website). A very nice feature is the "Random" button, which displays a Unesco site at random.
Opening the site, there is a short description which can be expanded, a map showing where the site is located within the country, a photogallery (basic as in the Unesco website) and extra information.
Unfortunately no update for Google Earth yet :(
