Just a brief update on the film series "Schätze der Welt/Treasures of the World" on German television.
Recently some new films have been broadcasted and are also available on the website.
http://www.swr.de/schaetze-der-welt/sdw_index.htmlThere is an interesting one on Wrangel Island.
The impressive tundra wilderness is shown, and rare wild animals such as polar bears, musk ox, arctic fox. And the problems of the nature reserve are also reported, such as the significant climate change: prolonged summer, later beginning of the frost period, higher average temperature.
One of the last rangers on the island reports another problem: the remnants of the Cold War as Wrangel Island was an outpost of the Russian army. A lot of scrap metal lies around and rots away ("the last scrap yard before the North Pole"), but it lacks the financial means for transport.
I've also seen the very atmospheric film about Brú na Bóinne. Other new ones are on Amsterdam, Falun/Sweden, Kaya forests/Kenia, and Cidade Velha/Cape Verde.
As already mentioned the voice-over is in German, but the text is given verbatim on the website.
