As a new member of this community I do not know if it is already known that there is a TV programme about WH sites on German TV. It is produced by the SWR ("Südwest-Rundfunk") and can be seen mainly on 3sat channel, a German-language TV network. The title of the programme is "Schätze der Welt – Erbe der Menschheit" (Treasures of the World - Heritage of Mankind). Each film is 15 minutes in length and shows one WHS. So far, 390 films were produced.
And they are all available on the SWR website:

The voice-over and the text on the website are in German, but I think the films are also interesting for those who do not understand the language.
The latest is about Anuradhapura/Sri Lanka, next the Bikini Atoll is announced.

thanks for the update. I think Els used to have links to them on the site pages, I didn't realise they were still being made so I may well dip into the newer ones, quite interested in the upcoming Bikini Atoll one.

And Meltwaterfalls - you shouldn't miss the Barragan one!! It might help persuade you to plan for Mexico next time!
The texts by the way are verbatim but can't be fully seen whilst watching the video. Nevertheless a "Google translation" of them will help those of us whose German is somewhat limited!

Just a brief update on the film series "Schätze der Welt/Treasures of the World" on German television.
Recently some new films have been broadcasted and are also available on the website.

There is an interesting one on Wrangel Island.
The impressive tundra wilderness is shown, and rare wild animals such as polar bears, musk ox, arctic fox. And the problems of the nature reserve are also reported, such as the significant climate change: prolonged summer, later beginning of the frost period, higher average temperature.
One of the last rangers on the island reports another problem: the remnants of the Cold War as Wrangel Island was an outpost of the Russian army. A lot of scrap metal lies around and rots away ("the last scrap yard before the North Pole"), but it lacks the financial means for transport.

I've also seen the very atmospheric film about Brú na Bóinne. Other new ones are on Amsterdam, Falun/Sweden, Kaya forests/Kenia, and Cidade Velha/Cape Verde.

As already mentioned the voice-over is in German, but the text is given verbatim on the website.

At least once a year there is a World Heritage day on the German-Austrian-Swiss TV channel 3sat based on films of the "Schätze der Welt" program. The next is announced for November 30th.

All films of the program are available on the website, so far there are more than 400. The most recent are:

Al Ain
Tabriz Bazaar
and announced for this month: Nuraghe/Sardinia

Schätze der Welt" program.

I always love these. Unfortunately (well, not really as I will be travelling myself) I can't see them at the 30th of Nov.

I've added the films of Al Ain and Tabriz to the respective site pages as links.
