I know that some forum members are particularly interested in the Silk Road/China.
They should try to listen to this BBC radio program
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00p315t#broadcasts

Unfortunately it is NOT available for later listening so you only have this evening's repeat broadcast at 21.30 GMT. (Thurs 3 dec)

LATER - although the BBC web site said it WASN'T one of those they make available it is as of Friday STILL avaialble to listen to via the above link .

It is a relatively academic discussion but accessible enough albeit quite a romp through almost 2000years and a large geographical area in a mere 45 minutes!

Thanks for letting us know, I will check it out!

Acctually the 'In Our Time' archive is a bit of a goldmine for information on various aspects of World Heritage Sites, and also just for general information. I think it is availabe outside the UK, unlike the majority of the BBC's audio and video archive.
They can be a little academic however they are sometimes an invaluable resource, and Melvyn Bragg is a particularly astute host.
