Germany has no less than 33 sites on the WH List. So far, I've been to 28 of them. When I was going through the list today once again, I was thinking about these visits and tried to remember which I have liked most visiting.

In random order, my 3 favourite German WHS are:
1. Trier
2. Weimar
3. Messel Pit

What is your German Top 3?

Out of only 24 visited!
Favourite
Museuminsel - for the world class museum contents rather than the ensemble
Bauhaus Sites - for its "world significance"
Upper Middle Rhine - so "German"!

I would have had Dresden if it wasn't for stupid UNESCO

Least Favourite
Reichenau - just another set of churches of some, but not that great, interest
Hildesheim - just another (yawn) cathedral .... ditto
Muskauer - not of "Universal Value surely!

There are many places in Gemany I enjoyed, but for WHS my top 3 favorite are;
1. Bamberg for its beautiful city center and red beer.
2. Museuminsel, truly amazing place especially Bode Museum.
3. Trier for its Italian feel and lovely city.

Lubeck should be in my top 3 but when I was there, the Hostentor was renovating and the Neo-nazi parade was marching in the city center with lots of protestors! a memorable trip but not a good time.

Germany has provided rich pickings over the last few years for me.
18 sites visited with one due in the next few weeks. Surprisingly it is currently the country in which I have seen most WHS (same amount as the UK for me)

My favourites:

Bauhaus – as a modern architecture fan this was a bit of a pilgrimage.
Bamberg – It was a surprise visit that I had there but highly enjoyable, the best place for German beer...at least on my travels so far.
Dresden – A real very welcome revelation to me when I visited. I'm still counting it even if UNESCO don't

I have really enjoyed my trips to Germany only a few sites have been disappointing namely Cologne and Speyer cathedrals. Even the Palaces, which normally bore me rigid, have been worthwhile trips.

Maybe time to continue this discussion? That way we can easily see what the Top3 is.
I guess my favorite three (out of 16 visited) would be :
- Lübeck (ohhhh, the marzipan!)
- Upper Middle Rhine Valley
- the Wadden sea (visited the German part two weeks ago)

I would like to re-support the idea of ranking the sites, in line with Joyce.
I doubt it will ever deliver a definitive list, but I do find it very interesting to see what people think about certain sites. Also it is pretty useful when planning trip to know if people think it is worth my while to go out of the way to see the site.

Back on topic, I think I could probably come up with a top three German WHS for sweets and treats.
Bremen for the Kluten
Lubeck for the Marzipan
Dresden for Stollen
Alas Nuremburg isn't on the list so I can't add Lebkuchen to my collection
