The former leper hospital is being renovated right now. Some houses are still inhibited by former patients.
I met two of them but wasnt able to communicate with them due to the language barrier as well as the advanced age
of them. However,I was able to enter the entire area by pure luck. Asked a man in the street where exactly is the historical part. The man turned out to be the project manager responsible for the engineering part of the renovation..
He allowed me to enter the building site and take as many pics as I wanted to. Security is tight there. After all it is a still functional hospital complex
and the historical part is not easibly accessible nor easy to identify.

Obviously Taiwan 's government is taking the possible proposal seriously.
I for my part doubt very much that anything authentic will be left. They take a similar approach to it like many middle eastern countries....
They overdo it.....the still inhabited houses look neglected and run-down...

I havent seen the sites on the two islands near to China. Neither have I visited the Penghu basalt reserve.
I didnt find any visited site worthy of a unesco title apart from
1)the Beinan site,
2)the mining sites
3)the old mountain line
The Alishian mountain line may have enough potential
to be proposed....but I for my part doubt there is enough OUV

Side note:The Bao'an Temple in Taipeh-Dalongdong has a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation. It sits on the site of a wooden shrine dating to 1742.It will probably be on Taiwan'list of potential whs within the near future

I have been to Dalongdong Bao'an Temple in April this year. The temple is very beautiful and well preserved but IMO does not have an OUV as it is a typical old Chinese temple built in typical Fujian Style similar to another famous temple in Taipei, Longshan Temple. The nearby Confucius Temple is more interesting in term of unique history. During China Civil War and Cultural revolution, the main line descendent of Confucius, the Kong Family, moved to Taipei and built this shrine as a new center of Confucianism.

I fully agree with you.The Boan temple is beautiful but like you I dont see any OUV.
And to be honest most sites on Taiwan's list are not worthy of a unesco title.
Taiwan is one of the best countries I ve ever visited in my life full with eye-pleasing
temples, hospitable and friendly people, interesting cities and extremely delicious food.
However,I haven't seen a lot of places here which could be potential whs.
The religious Fo Guang Shan komplex is stunningly impressive and seems to be from another planet
,but it feels a bit like a religious disneyland. It is one of the biggest
buddhist sites on our planet and important to countless people.
However, everything is new there... everything.Maybe in 20-30 years
