Hi everyone,

I got a question. I'm going on a trip soon to a town near Wolfach in the black forest (South Germany). and I'm looking for interesting places to visit with a world heritage connection. I was hoping there to be sites, but I can only find maulbronn and reichenau and they seem very hard to reach. The cathedral of Freiburg seems to have tentative list potential, but that's about all I can find. Do you perhaps know anything else?

Strasbourg?

I can give you some tips without a world heritage connection if you're interested. I spent several years in Freiburg studying. As Els suggests, Strassburg is the only nearby world heritage site with a train travelling from Offenburg.

I visited Strasbourg from Baden-Baden it was pretty easy to visit and a really worthwhile site to visit.
I didn't see much of Baden-Baden so can't say whether it is worth a visit but it sounds nice.

In terms of Maulbronn I think there is a S-Bahn station near-by, the trains run from Karlsruhe.

Also not sure if you know about them at all but [url=http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/prices/germany/laender_tickets.shtml ]Länder-Tickets[/url] are exceptional value. For €28 you and five other people can travel anywhere within a German Lander all day as long as you don't use Inter City express trains. As Baden Wurttemberg is so big this is great value for money and if you are creative you could get to sites just outside like Wurzburg (well worth a trip!).
It just means spending a fair bit of time on a train. Incidentally I think the train from Karlsruhe to Wurzburg stops at Maulbronn.

Assif: Every tip is welcome :) I'm no so familiar with the area or the sights worth seeing, I already googled a bit, but have barely scratched the surface.

Meltwaterfalls: Thx for the advice on the traintickets, I know how expensive german trains can be. I had no idea there was such a kind of ticket. :)

Well, it truly depends on what you're looking for. The Black Forest is very beautiful and you can visit some of its better known natural attractions (Wutachschulcht, Feldsee, Titisee and Belchen are my favourite ones). If you're into wine production the area of Kaiserstuhl produces the best bouble wines in Germany. Across the borders to Fance you should definitely visit Colmar (and its Unterlinden museum) and maybe a few of the medievil villages on the Alsatian Vineyard Route (Riquevihr is the most frequented one). I also found you another nearby WHS -the Vauban fortified Neuf-Brisach (Neubreisach). It's just across the border from Germany. You also have a reconstructed medievil castle - Hochkoenigsburg. Historically it's not very valuable but the landscape is beautiful. A beautiful Romanesque church is found in Ottmarsheim and one of the best old car collections in Mulhouse.
Now in the other direction - in Switzerland you should defintely go to Basle and to some if its excellent museums (Tinguely and Beyler are must-sees). The Rhine across the Black Forest is very nice as well as the medievil town of Laufenburg. Vitra Museum in Weil am Rhein is the most important design museum in Europe.
Baden Baden is mainly known for its historical casino as well as for the Roman baths. Otherwise it's a very touristy town with snobbish people. Also known are its modern art museum as well as its historical excellent opera.
I hope that's enough for one visit ;)

Ah - and there's Europe's second largest amusement park in Rust - Europa Park.
