Happy New Year everyone, (well especially those not on the WhatsApp group where New Years pleasantries have already been shared)

I hope 2020 brings plenty of OUV.

2019 was another year in single digits for visit tally (4 visits and 3 previous visits inscribed), but priorities are elsewhere for a few years.

2020 promises to be another quiet year for the Meltwaterfalls clan travel wise, but I am looking forward to do plenty of vicarious travelling through you guys. And hopefully cracking the boundary mapping!

Happy 2020 to all too!

2019 brought me 35 new WHS, of which 11 were added during the WHC meeting.
For 2020, I am aiming for about the same amount and focusing on some less visited / hard to reach / more expensive destinations.

The year did not start too well however - I was bound to visit the Colombian WHS of Tierradentro today, but the road there was fully blocked after a landslide. It may take days to clean up. Hope to reach it in a couple of days via another route.

I visited 10 new sites in 2019, which was the smallest number of new sites I've visited in over a decade. I revisited and took new photos at a few sites as well.

I already have a bunch lined up for 2020 which should put me over the 400 number.

I had a great time meeting many folks from here in Scotland last year (sorry I didn't see you on that trip, meltwaterfalls); that was probably the best weather I have ever had when visiting Scotland! I crossed the 200 mark for World Heritage Sites, with 37 new sites, thanks to visits to Germany, Spain, and the Mediterranean in 2019. I only got one new site from the WHC meeting, but it was one I had been hoping for: the 20th Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Hope you all enjoy your travels in 2020! I'm looking forward to adding some new sites down south later this year, and helping balance back out my non-European sites. Sorry to hear Tierradientro didn't work out for you today, Els, but I hope you can get there later in your trip!

I managed to visit 38 sites thanks to my Latin American honeymoon and got another 3 from the WHC meeting.
There will be a few more added in 2020 but it will probably feel like a quiet year in comparison.
Good luck Els, Tierradentro is worth the effort.

This year has been a great WHS year for Svein and me. Now that the children has left the house and we have thpossibility to take time of work, we have to seize the opportunity. We managed to visit 54 whs and 6 whs from the session. Top sights like Victoria falls, Inca-trail and Machu Picchu, Manu Reserved zone, Huarascan National park, Namib sand sea, Skellig Micheal, great Roman remains:Baalbek and Ephesos and we topped it with Angkor. A fantastic year! Plans for next year are not yet fixed, so time will show

Honestly didn't keep track how many new in last year. :-) But I will continue this year to visit new countries and see the WHS there including some more difficult/costly to visit places. If I would want to go crazy I would just take my car and drive Europe for a year. So much I have to see here but they are just around the corner so not focussing on them. Take Italy + Spain thats like 100 and I still need most of them.
Main goal this year however is 12 more new countries to get my count to 100 before I turn 40 :-)

Idea is: Samoa (both), Fiji, Tuvalu, Croatia, Montenegro, Sri Lanka, Maldives, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad & Tabago
and then 2 more. I'm seriously thinking about Syria to also visit all the WHS (as per the guide I'm in contact with it can be done, anyone wants to join?). The 100th country must be a blast; I'm not sure which yet but Iceland is an option but also Rwanda (Gorilla's).

You are aware that Rwanda has the most expensive gorilla's? Better go to Uganda or DRC (Kahuzi Biega should be accessible).

It's been a bit of a different pace for us this last year. After a couple of years based in Europe and travelling full time, we're currently based back home in Australia. We've mainly done multiple shorter trips (usually around 1 month) to various parts of Asia, while leaving our pet dog behind (and missing him a lot).

We've still managed to visit about 100 sites each - 95 for me, 102 for Joel, plus a few more sites that were inscribed. We've also been a lot more budget focused, managing to spend only about 160 euros per site visit.

In 2020, we had hoped to head back overseas, but everyone around us has decided to have babies (not us!) Instead, we've so far booked trips to Tasmania and China (trip #2), plus hoping to visit Peru, India again, plus scattered sites around the Pacific and SE Asia.

I know but my wife and kids don't want DRC/Uganda. But do want Rwanda.
Do DRC/Uganda I'll see later myself. Gabon has Gorilla's as well but they also don't want to go there.
