Greeting all a peaceful coming new year

I'm in Spain spending christmas eve and new year where in Salamanca, Spain staying in finest and cheapest hotels. Hope we have more Blessed year to come HERITAGE.

Antwerp has an ice skate ring near the city hall (belfry world heritage) if i'm not mistaken, nice christmas markets, a nice illuminated view on the world heritage cathedral (belfry) and fireworks at midnight new year's eve, so that could be nice way to spend new year.

I also hear brussels grand place is really worth while with new year's eve

I have tried to get away fro the last few New Years Eves and I am yet to have a bad experience. Central Europe has been the basis of most of my trips as it normally includes all the stereotypical things I for this time of year, markets, cold weather and fire works.

The fireworks are always a bit of a surprise, I am not sure if it is just because we are extra safety conscious in Britain but the idea of every one turning up and letting of their own fireworks just doesn't seem to happen here. People just setting them off wherever they may be positioned really adds to the atmosphere, even if it does feel a little treacherous.

Krakow and Stockholm have had the best fire works. They have both seemed to have had an organised display that is more than supplemented by the locals brining along there own.

The atmosphere in Heidelberg was the best and they kept the Christmas market ticking over into the New Year which was nice. We also saw in the New Year in Lubeck which was also very nice but not quite as hectic as the other places.

The one downside with the German cities is that more things tend to be closed on New Years day than there were in Poland or Sweden, but that could just be because we were in smaller cities in Germany.

I could fully expect Antwerp to be a good place to see in the New Year as EnsignYoshi has suggested

All in all cold places in Northern and Central Europe have been great places to see in the New Year.

Spain is a nice place to spend your vacation in, but i know another place that i have visited and i really enjoyed my time without spending too money, its Egypt.
