So far we have no former TWHS for Australia. While reading a IUCN document I found reference to an indicative list from 1991.
https://portals.iucn.org/library/sites/library/files/documents/2013-026.pdf (page 202)

It includes:

Cape York Peninsula
Eastern Arid Zone (including Channel Country, Gibson Desert and Lake Eyre)
Forest and wildflower regions of West Australia
Antarctica (!)
Alps and eucalypt forests of South East Australia: Australian Alps and East Gippsland National Parks
Nullarbor

Looked into this one suggested by Assif, it is indeed an interesting study.
However, I do not think they are former TWHS:
If I read the document well, these I believe represent an earlier stage (the Australian Indicative List), but never were accepted as a Tentative List:
"led to the abandonment of Australia's Indicative List in 1995 before it had been submitted to the Committee."

We know what the tentative list looked like before 1995 and these were not there. See for example 1994, http://whc.unesco.org/archive/1994/whc-94-conf003-inf7e.pdf, where it is said that Australia's list did not meet the requirements.

Usbekistan has 3 Former Tentative Sites on this website,
however I suppose, they are not:

Djarkurgan's Minaret: Part of TWHS Ancient Termiz
Ishrathona: Inscibed within Samarkand WHS?
Kyrk Kyz: Part of TWHS Ancient Termiz

If yes, it should be incorporated into the listing?

I see we have these sites listed as FTWHS now, but having read through I came to the same conclusion as you @els

Is there something else that suggests these were properly submitted?

Could we have displayed, as before the website migration, the total number of Former Tentative Sites? Currently, 817 I believe.

We have 816 now, plus I am looking into 2 more. Those were not listed at the overview of the old website either

"Oban Hills / Korup" is part of "Cross River – Korup – Takamanda (CRIKOT) National Parks", it was just a duplicate on the tentative lists, so perhaps we should remove it from Former

JakobFr:
However I am still wondering how we should resume with components being kicked out during the nomination process.
I am thinking of
- Erzgebirge (originally all associated sites were part of the nomination)
- Alvaro Siza (originally all buildings in Portugal)
- Domus der Janas (few components kicked out during inscription)
- Great Spa Towns (Wiesbaden, Bad Ischl, Luhasovive, etc.)
- and many more
Shall we include them as single FTWHS sites (that is the case for "Great Spas of Europe (Germany)" and "Gardens and palaces in and around Kassel") or rather add them as POIs as I did it for Erzgebirge?
At the moment it is inconsistent, so maybe s.th to discuss in the Forum.

Bringing this over from the comments, as indeed it is a fair point. I also cannot remember the "rules", so will have applied it in different ways while adding the more recent twhs. Let's check whether we discussed this before, and if not, what the "rules" should be to become listed as a FTWHS when a part of your nomination has been inscribed.

I was also thinking of their addition as points of interest, like JakobFr suggests. It looks nice but it could be problematic: the main factor could be that we do not want to have a (T)WHS ticked if you only ticked the discarded locations. So I might favour to have a specific F(T)WHS for them. Something with a fixed formula like "Former locations of..."?

Let's not forget that this happens for TWHS too, even before they become WHS! :-)

The one caveat I would flag up is that regularly we have had to guess or infer what is in a proposed site.

For example the original Alvaro Siza locations, were just me coming up with what I thought would be the likely buildings included. I spent time on it and tried to match to the regions mentioned in the text, but it was just me making an educated guess. So ticking a site based on our former maps, just means you went on holiday to a place I thought was important :), rather than something that was ever actually proposed.

I don't think we really have a way of separating what are community mapped best guesses and sites actually proposed by a state. (This is especially true of the older FTWHS where we may just have a vague name.

Just a small correction to FTWHS: Goddard Rocket Launching Site is in Auburn, Massachusetts. It is marked on the map to a point in Maryland.
