In searching for some future travel plans and other projects I stumbled across
this photoI think it is the least inspiring photo of a World Heritage Site I have seen and has made me really want to visit Jekabpils.
If I'm interpreting it properly the actual monument on the WH List is that grey thing that looks like a tree stump surrounded by mud. The more monumental pillar in the background is merely the sign saying it is a WHS. I think that is right anyway.
I've been looking into the Struve Geodetic Arc and the Pile Dwellings which offer rich pickings in the obscure listed sites. Can't wait to try and convince and my Mrs. or an unsuspecting friend to visit them with me!
Anyway, if anyone else knows of any very uninspiring aspects of a World Heritage Site, I would be keen to know as I take great pleasure in hunting them out.
