I will visit Bangkok around new year, I heard that Thailand is planning to propose certain places in Bangkok to be world heritage site, but not sure which one, anybody can give some information which place I should go, as I don't want to have a "near miss" :)

This blog (below) lists some possible areas (both the obvious ones in the city centre and some others around) but seems to be flying a kite in regard to Bangkok's possible future as a WHS. The fact that there seems to be nothing else about this possibility anywhere else on the Web (??? Though there may be in the Thai language of course), the lack of any Bangkok sites on Thailand's T List, and the mention of the Ministry of Tourism's intention to give priority to Chiengsan (Chiang Saen), Naan (Nan), and Lumpoon (none of which are currently on Thailand's T List either) doesn't seem to augur well for its chances!

Thanks Solivagant,

It turned out that the site I heard to be nominated as world heritage site is actually the UNESCO Memory of the World of Temple of the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok, so my personal mistake of these two UNESCO programs. But thank you for the information, I will make sure to visit old city and some sites mentioned in the blog to avoid the "near miss" :)

Any update information is still welcome not only for Bangkok but nearby areas.

I'm kind of surprised that Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) isn't specifically named in that link, it was certainly my stand-out sight of Bangkok.
It is on Rattanakosin Island though so I guess I have visited the area that may be proposed. I will admit I didn't realise it was actually an island until now, but have just noticed the canals on the non river side.

I don't know if you have been to Bangkok before Durian, but I have fond memories. I can't think of another city so well set up for independent travellers, especially if you have a limited budget (by Western Standards). You can make of the city what you like, but I enjoyed the couple of days I spent there.

Thanks meltwaterfalls,

This will be my second time for Bangkok, but will be the first time I really plan to see the old city, I only saw the Grand Palace, which I never heard any plan to nominate this site as world heritage (I don't know why but most of ruling monarchs' palaces rarely been put on world heritage list?)

Wat Pho is one of the place I plan to visit this time (Obama's picture really make me want to go to this temple).
