Uk's Lake District has had a very very long history but still soldiers on and has recently received an amber light -
a. On UK's first T List in 1986
b. Its formal Nomination was "deferred" in 1987 because IUCN didn't feel able to evaluate as the landscape wasn't "Natural" and there was no provision at the time for "Cultural Landscapes" (CL).
c. Many other CLs have gained inscription since the new concept was accepted by UNESCO in 1992 but The Lake District was never re-nominated
d. Was carried forward onto UK's 2nd T List in 1999
e. Was carried forward onto UK's 3rd T List in 2012
f. Was not chosen in 2012 as one of the first 2 sites for nomination from that T List
g. Has been told it has the potential of being selected for nomination in 2015. Its case was presented here -
http://www.culture.gov.uk/images/publications/Lake_District_Technical_Evaluation.pdf The evaluation of the case's strengths and weaknesses is here -
http://www.culture.gov.uk/images/publications/Lake_District_Expert_Group_Comments.pdf Els -the history of this T List entry on the Web site has been over written by the 2012 T List nomination thus losing the earlier T list details and the deferred nomination
