With some tentative sites dusting off their nomination, it is interesting to see them re-emerge as potential WHS.

We have discussed Mt. Fuji and Kamakura, both nominations were brought forward in 1992. Though Mt. Fuji did update their nomination in 2007.

The Gangjin Kiln Sites, a tentative site in Korea just held a International Symposium on "Gangjin Goryeo Celadon Kiln Sites (for the Nomination of World Heritage)". The Gangjin nomination dates from Korea's original tentative list in 1994. I am somewhat suprised to see renewed interest in the nomination.

Is anyone aware of other old nominations on a similar path?

Uk's Lake District has had a very very long history but still soldiers on and has recently received an amber light -
a. On UK's first T List in 1986
b. Its formal Nomination was "deferred" in 1987 because IUCN didn't feel able to evaluate as the landscape wasn't "Natural" and there was no provision at the time for "Cultural Landscapes" (CL).
c. Many other CLs have gained inscription since the new concept was accepted by UNESCO in 1992 but The Lake District was never re-nominated
d. Was carried forward onto UK's 2nd T List in 1999
e. Was carried forward onto UK's 3rd T List in 2012
f. Was not chosen in 2012 as one of the first 2 sites for nomination from that T List

It seems probable that the Korean Cretaceous Dinosaur Coast nomination will be updated on Korea's Tentative list, including additional components (some recently discovered). Here is the transcript from an interview published yesterday, the nomination is referenced and there is an indication the nomination will re-emerge in due time.

Q. Korea attempted to enlist the southern areas with abundant dinosaur tracks on Unesco's World Heritage Site in 2009, but it got withdrawn. But that was before many of the world's first discoveries. What are the chances now?

A. Back then, when we proposed the inscription, it included five fossil sites. They were Boseong, Haenam, Hwasun and Yeosu in South Jeolla and Goseong in South Gyeongsang. That was before we discovered the Jinju Formation. Jinju sites came later into the map because of a large development project by the government to turn Jinju into a so-called innovation city. As the bulldozers began pushing aside dirt and cut mountains, we found great fossil sites that now became natural monuments of Korea.

By adding such new sites, I believe it increases the value at an international level. Moreover, together with our Korean colleagues, we were able to publish the discoveries in higher quality journals like the Scientific Reports. Some people still think that tracks are not as important as the discoveries of bones or skeletons. But we'll continue to push our discoveries and report them at a higher level to make sure the Korean Cretaceous Dinosaur Coast gets Unesco's World Heritage inscription in the near future.
