Przemysl Fortress (Poland)

Another interesting monument from Poland (in fact serial proposal including lots of places from former Austro-Hungarian Empire). Lots of work and coordination.

More about the place https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Przemy%C5%9Bl_Fortress or https://visit.przemysl.pl/en/481-przemysl-the-fortress-of-przemysl

Jarek Pokr:
in fact serial proposal

"the preparation of a serial nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage List of the fortifications of the former Habsburg state in the 19th and 20th centuries and Austro-Hungarian war cemeteries of World War I"

Would be interesting to find locations elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe that aim to be included. Probably Komárno (already a double TWHS for Slovakia and Hungary).

It is mentioned that also Terezin Fortress, places in Boka Kotorska are included. Also the stronghold in Italy (https://www.fortebelvedere.org/en/) as well as several cemetaries from I World War. Anyway lots of preparation.

To me this looks more like the Intangible Cultural Heritage List

Tanger (Morocco) (news item dates from 2023, I haven't found any recent ones):

Just what the "list" needs...
https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/stokes-croft-to-become-a-world-heritage-site/#:~:text=Stokes%20Croft%20is%20to%20join,as%20having%20outstanding%20universal%20value".
There is a massive gap concerning such 21st Century post industrial areas which, in their awfulness, "bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition...which has disappeared"
*-)

Alright, which of you wrote this? This is too detailed to be written by a non-enthusiast. Boundaries, criteria, the delisting of Liverpool... And of course a statement from famous WHS spokesperson 'Guanajuato Salamanca' (sadly Bwindi Serengeti must have been off that day)

I know everyone is prone to inflating the importance of local landmarks a bit, but the Anglocentrism here really bugs me whenever Belfast's ensemble of murals is so much more. Not only are there beautiful pieces for the sake of it (Friz & Dan Leo's Fox & Bird is a favourite of mine) just like in Stokes Croft, but there's thousands of pieces representing both sides of the sectarian divide that would represent a slice of 20th century history not yet recognised on the list, as well as numerous pieces memorialising local events e.g. the Ballymacarrett rail crash of 1945.

I saw that article in my news feed today and had a good laugh. If Stokes Croft is worthy, then surely there's room for a Magic Roundabout or a Tesco parking lot with film history!

BTW, there's a nice photo of the Bath World Heritage Center at the end of the article. The center is worth a visit when in Bath (though try not to visit the city on the day of their half marathon, as I made the mistake of doing last month).

Yes...a nice "April fools joke"....as Liam says it is quite well constructed with enough apparent "insider knowledge" to convince for a short while at least .... and it has the basic "truth" of reflecting the absurdity of many OUV claims!!! I hope to hear from Guanajuato Salamanca again!!!

Solivagant Eek, that'll teach me for skimming through it - well, I have a good case for the Belfast murals ready if there's ever another Top Missing Sites campaign around here at least.
