Full name of site: Diolkos: Ancient Railways
Country: Greece
Short description of site (also include multiple locations if applicable): the oldest railway yet discovered, this stone path was used to transport ships across the isthmus of Corinth from 600 B.C. until Circa 50 A.D.
Criteria (cultural, natural, mixed): Criteria: I, II, III, IV, V
Outstanding universal value / comparative analysis: this site represents the origin of the railway, an invention that has changed the world amazingly. other railways are on the list, however these are all from thousands of years later. this railway is also entirely made of stone, making it unique.

My support for this original idea. I've never heard of the site before.

Yes thanks for that Xeres.
An interesting site - I wasn't aware of it either. It is certainly as good as/better than many sites which get on but i think i will withhold my vote for "Top 50 Missing" yet until I get a clearer picture of all of the competition!! It might get in at around 48.
