Publication of connections on the website

Some of you have noticed that sometimes there is stagnation in the publication of connections that you've submitted. There are generally 2 reasons for that:
- the high number of suggestions being made (I usually spend 1 hour before going to work on it, and 1 hour when I come back home) > some days this just isn't enough to cope with all new ideas
- the number of suggestions that I'm unsure of, so that I have to check them (or find out where or what they are anyway)

So please be patient. It doesn't help to submit the same ideas 2x, as I record them all anyway. Any rejections will be made public on this forum.

What does help is to be as clear and specific as you can when you send in your suggestions: not 'I'm sure there's a statue in Rome', but name the specific statue and check yourself if it is within the WHS boundaries.

That said, don't be put off in sending them in, I love them and appreciate all the energy that you give to the connections (and this website)!

New Individual Person Connection

(For some reason when I submitted the connection it said "error no bad words")

Homer B. Hulbert (1863–1949) was an American missionary, journalist and political activist who advocated for the independence of Korea. Hulbert's tombstone reads "I would rather be buried in Korea than in Westminster Abbey." He is interred at Yanghwajin Foreigners' Cemetery in Seoul. He was the recipient of the Order of Merit for National Foundation by the Korean Government. He is occasionally referred to in Korean as a "Freedom Fighter". He was reported to have been a close personal friend of King Kojong."- wiki (side note) The Passing of Korea (1905) is one of many accounts of Korea written by Hulbert during his nearly twenty years spent there, the book can be accessed online with google books

*Gochang, Hwasun, and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites - "I incline strongly to the opinion that they are very ancient graves, in spite of the fact that no bones are found. These dolmens are much more ancient than any Koryu grave."
- The Passing of Korea (1905) pg. 295

*Gyeongju Historic Areas - "Near this ancient town we find a numerous cluster of huge mounds, each the maosoleum of King of Silla. Another relic of that civilization is an ancient stone tower some twenty feet high, shaped like a monster bottle. This was the astronomical observatory of ancient Silla."
- The Passing of Korea (1905) pg 290-291

*Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty - "In the case of very wealthy men or of princes, the grave site will be ornamented with stone figures of men and animals, arranged on either side and facing each other."
- The Passing of Korea (1905) Pg 455

*Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom - "Manchuria is full of Korean graves, and for many centuries the power of Chosun was felt in this region."
- The Passing of Korea (1905) pg 73

*Westminster Palace, Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret's Church - During his final visit to Seoul in 1949, Homer Hulbert proclaimed, "I would rather be buried in Korea than in Westminster Abbey." Seven days after arriving in Seoul Hulbert passed away. His last wishes were carried out and his grave can still be seen in Seoul today. Homer Hulbert remains a revered figure in Korea.

This happened to me last week too. Maybe this should be checked, Els.

I had changed the check on "bad words" because I received quite a lot of spam via this connections form last week. I've now lowered the security level again, so it should be OK now (it still does not like words like "sex" or "loan"). Long submissions you can also send directly to my e-mail adress els@worldheritagesite.org

I can understand why added "Connections" can appear on the list of "latest added" several days before they actually appear in the Connection Subject and on the Site pages - presumably you only do a periodic full "update" of your files.
But how can some later additions appear on their respective pages before earlier ones? E.g the individual entries for the latest addition of "Rock Formations" are visible whilst those for additions made several days ago - e.g "Cornwall" for "Protestantism" and several others are not. Is it because the Rock foundations was also a completely new "Connection" and you have only "updated" for that rather than for additions to existing connections?? Couldn't you have an automatic "timed" daily update of all dBs - whilst still allowing for specific "requested" updates? Just an "ex professional" interest!

This sounds like an error.

I´ve had some problems some time ago already because of the fact that there are too many connections too handle. When generating the individual site pages, the query often times out. And as a result of that half of the connection pages have not been updated.

The main Connection page with the latest added connection does not have the same problem, because it shows the updates real-time.

What I could do to resolve it is to make the individual connection pages Dynamic too. So I cannot longer forget to update them and the time out-problem does not exist anymore.

Zürich hotspot - I live 9min from the center of Zürich. In addition to the mentioned connections I did following WHS as daytrip from my home (travelling by car):
- La Chaux-de-Fonds (2h10min per way)
- Arc-et-Senans and Salins les Bains (3h20min per way) - might be a bit far for the regular traveller
- Neuf-Brisach (Vauban) (1h50min per way). Also Besancon (Vauban) can be visited on a day trip
- Strassbourg (2h40min per way)
- Lauvaux (2h20min per way)
