nfmungard:
Connection: Copy of WHS
Definition: Site must contain a copy of parts of a 2nd WHS. The copy must be intentional and the reference documented. The scale may differ, but it shouldn't be a model. Inspired by does not count.

More suggestions have been coming in, suggesting that we refine the definition.
Regarding scale: size must be at 25%+ of the size of the original? (that would leave Wörlitz in)
Regarding "inspired by": there is a gradual change between "true replica" and "inspired by" - none will be exact copies. The one at Wörlitz was "based on the early, rejected plans for the UK's Coalbrookdale Iron Bridge". The Potala-like structure in Chengde is a Chinese imitation.

What do you think nfmungard - you're the one who suggested it.

Connection: Basque

I tried searching back in the forum, but couldn't find that it has been suggested before to add Altamira Caves to this connection(?) Three of the caves that were added to the WHS in 2008 are in the Basque Country. (The definition of what makes the connection only defines what the Basque Country is.)

The last two new connections for the Rock Carvings in Tanum.

Connection: Recorded cultural discoveries

Rock Carvings in Tanum – "The first mention of a rock carving from the Tanum World Heritage area is in 1751 when Colonel Klinkowström wrote: "In Tanum parish, not far from the sea, I have also seen a rock surface with a carved man holding a spear. The story goes that a Scottish leader was killed during ancient warfare and the position in which he was found was carved into the rock." This refers to the so-called Spear God on the Litsleby panel." (Link)

Connection: Tombs

Rock Carvings in Tanum – Rock carvings at Vitlycke: "On top of hill above the carvings, there are two large burial mounds from the earlier Bronze Age." (Link)

The end.

And I will follow up with a new connection proposal for the Constructions or Human Activity category:

Connection: Rose garden

Definition: WHS that contain a rose garden.

Assisi – To the right of the apse of the basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, there is the rose garden. This place is famous for an event that involved Saint Francis: one night, the Saint, overcome by strong doubts and remorse for sin, rolled over naked in the thorny rose garden. According to tradition, this rose garden lost all its thorns upon contact with the body of the Saint so as not to cause any damage. Even today the rose garden blooms without thorns. (Wikipedia)

Bamberg – The rose garden of the Neue Residenz (Wikipedia)

Florence – Giardino delle Rose (Wikipedia)

Great Spa Towns of Europe – Baden bei Wien: "Since 1968, the [Doblhoff] park has been owned by the City and is home to Austria's largest rosarium (area 8 hectares) with more than 30,000 rose plants in over 800 varieties.". (Nomination file, p. 86)

Nice – In the park of the Château de Valrose (Wikipedia)

Val d'Orcia – Rose garden in San Quirico d'Orcia (Wikipedia)

I'm throwing it out there. Maybe it's too specific, since we already have French/English/Italian Renaissance garden? And maybe the rose garden is a subset of the Botanical Gardens connection? I'll leave it up to you to decide.

What do you think nfmungard - you're the one who suggested it.

Technically, it's Kristin who suggested it. I think the key bit to me is that:
a) it's within a WHS (core zone).
b) it's not a model (> 25% in size) and usable as the original structure was intended.
c) it is not inspired by, but an imitation or a copy that can be recognized by visitors.
d) it was created with the clear intention to be a copy/imitation and with reference and attribution to the original by the creators.

For me the intention bit is key.

Sintra: Asterix: Asterix in Lusitania: Castle of the Moors

"Des éléments comme une carrière de pierres ou au sommet de l'une des collines de Sintra, le château des Maures. (...). La tour de Bélèm aussi a été une source d'inspiration."

Sintra: Asterix: Asterix in Lusitania: Castle of the Moors

It is funny since these 2 buildings date from much later than when Asterix "lived", around 50 B.C.E.

No, the connection is only for sites with an entrance " General city centres and cultural landscapes are excluded, as well as illegal entrance, limited days and other "tricks"." -> I'd say the Grand Place is similar to a City Center (the core zone also is fairly large, larger than I imagined before mapping it)

Connection: Rose garden

Definition: WHS that contain a rose garden.

I think we could have another Garden connection, but not so sure about this one.
I had been looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_the_World_in_80_Gardens (has some interesting examples, but the choice seems arbitrary)
Isn't there some "Garden certificate" or "Garden heritage list" or "Association of Historical Gardens" we can look at for WHS on Other Lists?

I can propose you the following new connection for the WHS on Other Lists category:

Connection: European Route of Historic Gardens

Definition: The European Route of Historic Gardens (ERHG) is a non-profit association founded in 2016 whose members are European historic gardens and institutions that share the common interest of protecting and promoting the heritage of historic gardens. (Link)

This connection features WHS that are also part of the European Route of Historic Gardens.

Aranjuez – Aranjuez Cultural Landscape (Link)

Florence – Giardino di Boboli (Link)

Granada – Alhambra and Generalife Gardens (Link)

Medici Villas and Gardens – Giardino della Villa medicea di Castello (Link)

Royal Palace at Caserta – Reggia Di Caserta (Link)

Santiago de Compostela – Alameda Park (Link)

Sintra – Park of Pena (Link)

Villa d'Este – Villa d'Este (Link)

Warsaw – Gardens of The Royal Castle in Warsaw (Link)

Some more connections for Astérix, because they travel a lot:

In Astérix en Hispanie, they travel via Coca, Segovia, Salamanca and Cordoba to Seville. And, also nice, the nearby circus of Itálica, nominated for 2027, features in this album.

Astérix chez le Bretons features the Tower of London as the safest prison of Londinium.

In Astérix Legionnaire, they sail from the Rade of Marseille (THWS) to fight in the battle of Thapsus in Tunisia. I think Massilia is mentioned in one or two other albums, as well.

The Chaîne des Puys features in Le bouclier arverne.

In Astérix chez Rahàzade, they fly with the magic carpet over Tyre and get shot with arrows. More prominently, Tyre is shown in L'Odyssée d'Astérix. Also in Astérix chez Rahàzade, the Ganges riverfront of Varanasi (THWS) is shown (without naming it).

One more Astérix:

Perhaps stretching the connection a bit: in La Grande Traversée, we (sort of) have the Statue of Liberty featuring.

Even though I do think Rose garden might be a worthy connection on its own.

It has its own article on Wikipedia (Rose garden) and does feature among the "types of garden" (Wikipedia). I do think some more examples can be found to enhance the connection.

For instance:

Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro - Rose garden in the Retiro Park (La Rosaleda del Retiro) "Created by Chief Gardener Cecilio Rodriguez in the 1930s." (Wikipedia) (Wikimedia)

Rome - "Rome Rose Garden, also known as Il Roseto, is a public garden in Rome, Italy, located opposite the Circus Maximus on the Aventine Hill. The park was established in 1931. Over 1100 varieties of roses are grown there, many of them gifts from countries around the world." (Wikipedia)

I also think it adds to understanding more of the OUV of some places, e.g. for Assisi, where the rose garden plays an important role in Saint Francis' life story, and for the European Spa towns, where rose gardens are one of the many forms of entertainment/leisure activities that make up the 'spa architecture'.
