I got a suggestion from one of you to remove the sites included in Reduced from broader TWHS from the list of former TWHS. It can be a bit confusing to see a site there which looks to have been inscribed already.

So for example Puebla and Cholula: Puebla has been made a WHS, Cholula has been left out and therefore qualifies as a former TWHS. Because they earlier were combined, they both show as a former TWHS now.

Personally I would not be in favour of this:
- there would be no space anymore to show reviews or other trivia of the part that was left behind
- it is always clearly stated in the Site History block what happened (one part inscribed, another part not)
- one way or the other, both solutions are not perfect; so let's leave it like it is (we're used to this solution now)

I am bit "lost" on this.
a. As far as I am aware there is no way of seeing a complete list of "Former TWHS" as we have them identified at the moment? They can only be accessed via the country page and then seeing how many "Former WHS" that country has? Is there another way? Currently this makes looking through that entire list rather difficult!
b. The example given of "Puebla and Cholula" certainly appears on Mexico's list of "Former TWHS" but doesn't appear in the Connection "Reduced from broader TWHS". Though - under "current rules" it should? But this means it isn't a good example for the "suggestion" anyway.
c. I am not sure that ANY of the sites currently in the "Reduced from Broader TWHS" are in the list of "Former TWHS". I have checked a few and all the ones I have checked are not also in the "Former TWHS" List
d. I guess it is to some extent a matter of relative "size" of the inscribed and removed parts - I agree that it is interesting to know that Cholula was originally part of the T List entry and got left out - but this is already mentioned under Puebla and would be clearer still if it were added as a Connection. By not having it also on the list of Former TWHS the ability to "review" Cholula would be removed and that would be a shame - but the only way of reviewing e.g "The Battlefield of Philippi" (left out from the original TWHS of Philippi) is to do so under the inscribed Philippi site - and the same for any other "elements" removed from TWHS where that TWHS isn't also shown as a "Former TWHS". There seems no perfect answer - but, on the other hand we are not currently being entirely consistent

I haven't checked them all, but most of those I recognize were absorbed into current TWHS or are identical with them. Some are still there as a former TWHS, albeit under a different name.
Some examples: Podillian Ridge (Ukraine) is now a WHS beech forest, the Dutch former TWHS are a part of the current Limes TWHS, Santa Giulia-San Salvatore (Italy) belongs to the WHS Longobards, traditional mosques (Ghana) was absorbed into current TWHS trade pilgrimage routs, NR terrestrial mollusks (Cuba) is the WHS Humboldt, Natural park of Campeche (Mexico) was incorporated into WHS Calakmul etc.

Before we set off on what could be quite a big exercise it would be useful to know where the list came from and why its entries are not thought to have been inscribed or on current T Lists?

Thank you for your answers. Clearly, some sites that I suggested are sometimes "hidden" in a serial site. But this is not the case for everything, for example Denali National Park or Trinity Site (USA), which appears in the following source.

Right jonathanfr - can we take it that every TWHS on your list came from an official UNESCO WHC document like the one you have just cited?

It does appear that our earlier exercise to try to go through EVERY T List from the very earliest in order to identify sites which were once present but were later removed has still not fully covered the issue!
We trawled through the WHC papers for every WHC from the start looking at the submitted T Lists each year from 1980 until the "early 2000s" and identifying the changes to see if we had picked everything up!

I have tried to refresh my memory of what we did/didn't do and conclude that we must have "stopped" at too early a year on the assumption that we had already picked up T List additions/alterations since a certain date using our normal regular process.

The list provided by jonathanfr is clearly a very useful resource which we need to work our way through in order to identify what has happened to each of the entries he has made on it - Removed/incorporated in another T List site/inscribed etc etc.
It would be helpful if jonathanfr explained the sources for his list -which WHC years has he been through etc etc so that THIS TIME we can be sure that we have covered everything and have a good record of what we have done!! We also record the each "forrmer T List site the year added and removed so that is another reason why we need to know the WHC years which have been used in producing the "jonathanfr last"!

I don't think so - the links to the WHC earlier documents showing the existence of Denali and Trinity on the TWHS were included in the earlier discussions of this subject
