Connections about architects

We do have:
1 - Italian architects outside Italy
2 - Designed by famous architects
3 - Multiple works of a single architect
4 - Separate connections for individual architects, such as Mimar Sinan, the Lei family

While 1 and 3 have a certain niche value, I think 2 is just a long list of names.

Also, I received a long list from Caspar Dechmann where he singles out some 13 other architects (such as de Botaica, Fischer von Erlach, Hardouin-mansart, Le Notre, Sanmicheli and Schinkel) that have been active in 3 or more WHS.

What do you think - should we discontinue connection 2 as described above, and replace it by connections per architect?
And are there any limitations to having a connection for a single architect. I think 'famous' isn't really a criterion. But we could limit it to architects that have been active in more than 1 country (originally that was kind of a rule for all connections).

I'm in favour of dropping connection 2.

Whilst I occasionally drop in there (I may have even been the/an instigator of it) there is a temptation for it just to become a list of buildings whose architects names are recorded and I don't know if that is really of value.

Famous is very disparate and subjective.

Is archiving it an option? So that the content is still there should it be of interest, but it doesn't show up as a connection alongside the others?

Same here. Having a connection per architect is much more informative.
I would also recommend moving the architects connections for the Individual People category to Architecture, where they will be easier to find.

Maybe a more objective criterion could be an official list of "famous" architects?
E.g. "Built by a Pritzker Prize winner" or "Built by a winner of the Aga Khan Prize"

For Pritzer, we'd have Sydney Opera House (Utzon), Brasilia and Pampulha (Niemeyer), Vienna (Hollein built the Haas House next to St Stephan Cathedral), Prague (Gehry's Dancing House). And maybe more.

I think this is a good idea and a nice connection, but of course it excludes famous architects from previous centuries.

Done this. And also added "Designed by", so it's about their work and not (or not as much) about their personal life.

Will now start on the individual architects' connections. Have 13 from Caspar still to do, and got a bunch more from Assif.

We also have a connection for Architectural Design Competitions - not the same I know as they come before whilst the prize comes after but it fits quite neatly!
