I recently visited the Tartu Observatory in Estonia looking for a bright yellow building only to find it completely whitewashed! From not so old photos of the Lavra in Sergiev Posad I noticed that some of the churches did not have the bright colours they have today. While the structure housing Buddha's birthplace was painted red in the past and is now white. Any more you can think of for a connection?

Melaka: Originally, the Stadhuys like the other Dutch administrative buildings in South East Asia was painted white. However, after Melaka was handed over to the British, it was re-painted terra cotta by the British in 1911.

I've created the connection.
What are you referring to here, Clyde? The Lumbini WHS? Do you have a source for the repainting?

Regarding Trinity Lavra - the most striking example is the Gate Church of St John the Baptist which is now technicolor!

Upper Rhine Valley - from old photos/paintings of the Mouse Tower in Bingen (http://www.lookandlearn.com/history-images/M133533/The-Mouse-Tower-near-Bingen-on-th e-Rhine) and of the Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, both were recently painted in white with red elements
