I am open to correction but I don't believe that Ferlini's treasure was discovered within the boundaries of Gebel Barkal. Rather it was discovered at Meroe - in the Pyramid of Queen Amanishaketo. Ferlini hit success early and this led him to blow the tops off a fair number of the other pyramids there but without further "success".

Given Meroe's importance and the iconic nature of its remains it is a surprise that it is not inscribed but the Jebel Barkal inscription only includes the sites around the Gebel at El Kurru, Nuri and Napata. Meroe currently remains a T List site only. It is situated a fair distance upstream from Gebel Barkal above the 5th Cataract (Gebel Barkal is below the 4th cataract and is noteworthy also because the West facing "left bank" of the Nile, significant for facing the setting sun, happens here to be on the East because of the river's short southwards course at this point!). When I was there almost 3 years ago it was a hard day's drive on sand across the desert to get from Meroe to Gebel - but the Chinese were building a new road so it might be a mere couple of hours now! This road (and the massive electricity pylons which disfigure Meroe) are part of the infrastructure to support the Merowe Dam ( a different place than Meroe) being built near to Gebel Barkal at the 4th cataract.

I think you're right. I've deleted this entry from the 'Buried Treasure' Connection
