I was just wondering if anyone had encountered the UNESCO Eight Stories of Collective Bravery before.

I was listening to Thought for the Day this morning which talked about the Battle of Saragarhi which Lord Singh stated was "recognised by UNESCO as one of eight most inspiring stories of collective bravery in human history". It piqued my interested as I had never heard it, and it didn't really seem to fit with UNSCO's normal lists.

I can't find anything from UNESCO, and internet searches have turned up general general discussions asking about the list. General musings seem to suggest it also includes the Battle of Thermopylae.

My guess is this isn't actually a list at all, it may have a some stage been associated with a booklet or presentation vaguely related to UNESCO and Chinese whispers have elevated it to a more concrete entity.

But if anyone has more knowledge I would be interested to know.
