Plus mighty San Marino in 2008!!
And Holy See in 1990 - but it is a rather special case - though it is not "fully" inscribed as it still has some un-inscribed "extra territorial" properties - e.g Castel Gandolfo

I left out countries that lack a T-list and for which we agreed there is probably no chance of further inscriptions:
Holy See, San Marino, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Kiribati

127/162 countries with potential nominations (exluding countries which haven't forwarded any nomination so far) have been active during the last decade. I am positively surprised.

I think it is worth including the date of last nomination of all countries which have been active in that respect so that the list is "complete" as per the title ("Country Activity"). By all means identify countries where the country currently has no T List. It could be said that a country with no inscription but still with a Tlist is/has been active (show date of last T List entry where no inscrpition activity??). That would just leave a few other countries which have acceeded to the Convention but have no T List - Which? Date of accession to the Convention?? Just a very few really "inactive" countries left now!! I know that other threads on this forum discuss these but a full list of all the world's countries to show activity (or lack of it!) would be of use/interest!

Els - I was looking at the 2004 AB evaluation for St Lucia's Pitons (to see if there was ever likely to be an extension) and was surprised to note that IUCN recommended "Deferral" solely under criterion i. It had been nominated under i and iii but IUCN considered that iii was not justified. Regarding Criterion i it concluded - "Given the scientific uncertainty regarding the origin of the site and because any potential inscription of this site depends on this interpretation, consideration of whether or not the site meets criterion (i) is premature without further in-depth geological study of the site and the processes that led to its formation. "

The WHC ignored the recommendation and immediately inscribed under i and iii - so another example of an AB recommendation not being adopted.

So - "Controversial at inscription"?? We don't know the extent of any argument within the WHC and I wonder if the description of this Connection needs to cover both when we know that there were arguments and also simply where we know that the AB recommendation wasn't adopted (when, almost certainly there would also have been some sort of argument, since there are always some countries wanting to support the AB recommendation)? We already have some "connections" on this basis, e.g Wadi Rum, but the description doesn't "allow" for them.

I added all countries with their current status. However, I still focus on nominations made and not on T-lists.

Thanks - a good idea to italicise the non-active countries.

It would be great to see more of Latin America represented! Essentially 40% of all nations in Latin America are not active. The total WHS between these 14 countries whose size is equivalent to Western Europe? 18

Surprisingly enough, the number of inactive states is similar in all big blocks. However, looking at the distribution proportionally some gaps arise.

9 (out of 49) in Europe-North America, 5 (out of 19) in Arab States, 7 in Asia-Pacific (out of 46), 8 in Africa (out of 45) and 9 (out of 33) in Latin America

Percentage of inactive Unesco members:

18% of Europe-North America
26% of Arab States
15% of Asia-Pacific
18% of Africa
27% of Latin America (or 25% if Saint Lucia is excluded)

So Latin America and Arab States are have by far more inactive states (proportionally) than the other three regions.
