OK, you're right it's written "Rhône des Côtes," but I've never heard that expression before. Normally, people refer to the "Côtes du Rhône" when talking about the wines and the vineyards... There must be a particular reason for calling it that, or maybe it's just to make it sound more sophisticated lol

Turkiye also has an old Genoese fortifications TWHS, which is almost the same as the new one, with the exception of one element (Kadikalesi / Anaia), so this is almost certainly a replacement. But you're right that this was originally supposed to be a transnational nomination. Ukraine, Italy, and Greece worked on its development in 2011 (source), with the possible inclusion of France, Turkiye, Israel, Tunisia, and other countries (source). Turkiye did join eventually, but the development of the transnational nomination halted (possibly after Russian occupation of Crimea). Since then, Turkiye has seemingly been trying to nominate its components independently.

State of Palestine

Thirteen Tentative World Heritage Sites were officially submitted by Palestine on January 13, 2026. This is recorded in the document dated July 3, 2026.
Els, you can therefore update the Tentative List page with these 13 additional sites (bringing the total from 1,864 to 1,877) without worrying that it might be mere speculation.

I understand your concern, but I don't think this is a political comment. We are discussing cultural heritage, and many of the nominated sites are in Gaza, where numerous historic monuments have been damaged or destroyed by the regime in Israel. The loss of cultural heritage has long been discussed within unesco and academic circles, including in relation to conflicts such as Cambodia, Rwanda, the Balkans, and the destruction of sites by extremist groups. I think acknowledging the destruction of cultural heritage is relevant in a heritage forum, regardless of the political context.

Of course I'm in favor of preserving cultural heritage (like all of us), but I think the use of the word "genocide" is inappropriate and politically charged. That is what I was referring to, because it is a sensitive subject. Etymologically, genocide refers to the mass killing of a group of people, not the destruction of cultural heritage. Moreover, the inscription of Ukrainian and Palestinian properties by bypassing UNESCO's usual nomination procedures is already a highly political matter. I think it is better to take a step back from all this and not let emotions override objective discussion.

This activity aims to establish a priority list of heritage sites and identifying at least one representative and credible cultural property for inclusion in the Tentative List by the end of 2026"

A recent article about the excavation of a building at the Cucuteni-Trypillia site of Talianky once again confirms that Ukraine's selection includes 15 sites, and one that's not on the UNESCO website is explicitly mentioned here: Pishchana (extra info). According to this paper, the site is located about 4 km south of the village of Pishchana near the confluence of Hirskyi Tikych and Velyka Vys rivers - so around 48.74957, 30.89386. I think we can add it as a community-identified location. Hopefully the identity of the other three nominated sites not present in the document will be cleared up soon. By the way, I emailed the Trypillia Culture Reserve a few months ago but haven't received a response.
