We recently discussed the issue of "filling the gaps" and in particular traditional crop production sites as potential new WHS.
In this context, the website of the
GIAHS - Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems may be of interest.
http://www.giahs.org/giahs-home/zh/They list a lot of traditional agricultural landscapes around the world and also pastoral systems and irrigation and water management. Most of the sites are located in South East Asia. There seems to be a great variation of rice terraces (like Rice-Fish or Rice-Fish-Duck-Systems), but there are also examples for traditional production of tea (China, India), potatoes (South America) or Saffron (Kashmir), and oases in North Africa and Maasai pastoralism in Kenya and Tanzania.
As far as I could see only the
Hani Rice Terraces are also a WHS.
An interesting and informative website, and maybe a list of potential new WHS?
