I don't know, maybe Vlkolinec is more authentic. But Cicmany definitely is more spectacular

This shows the history of Vlkolinec's inscription. It says it is the region's "most complete group of these kinds of log houses"
http://whc.unesco.org/archive/periodicreporting/EUR/cycle01/section2/622-summary.pdf

Vlkolinec didn't get inscribed until ICOMOS carried out a comparative study on
"Traditional Villages in the Carpathian Basin and its immediate surroundings". It was complimented on this study but I have been unable to find it anywhere on the UNESCO or ICOMOS sites or anywhere else on the Web. One presumes it might have mentioned Cicmany as a comparator.

The WHC was presumably aware of the large number of such villages which might be put forward in future years when it asked for the Study and indeed this report was referred to 4 years later in 1997 when the Czech Republic put forward Holasovice. However its ICOMOS Review states
"Holasovice does not figure on the short list of vernacular settlements recommended for consideration for inclusion on the World Heritage List in the comparative study of
traditional villages in the Carpathian basin and its immediate surroundings prepared by its International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages in 1993"
. But this didn't prevent Holasovice getting inscribed!! At the Bureau meeting, ICOMOS recommended that Holasovice didn't possess adequate OUV - but changed its mind by the time of the WHC!!

I have also looked up the Web site of the ICOMOS "International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages" (CIVVIH - http://civvih.icomos.org/?q=node/15 ) but, although it carried out the Study it is isn't on their site either! Does anyone have access to more ICOMOS reprts than are on the public Web?

But you can't keep a good site down. This Lonely Planet web page states that Cicmany IS a WHS!!
