Forum "members" might be interested in this 10 minute video interview with Irina Bokova Director General of UNESCO. The first half approx is "WHS related" and the second half on other UNESCO matters such a gender inequality.

As would be expected, the lady seems the typical UNESCO apparatchik :- In command of her brief and unyielding in her support of her organisation's policies and past history!

She was a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party from 1980 to 1990 and joined those members who left it to create the Bulgarian Socialist Party. She was born in 1952 and can hardly be criticised merely for Communist Party membership - it would have been de rigeur for anyone wanting to develop any sort of career in communist Bulgaria. But her family was not just like any other trying to survive in difficult times. Rather, it was part of the communist elite in Bulgaria and "has form" even to the possible extent of active involvement in the murder of the Bulgarian Painter Rayko Aleksiev in 1944. Wiki - "Ayla Aleksandrova's documentary novel Hot red, based on documents and interviews with Aleksiev's widow, suggests that high-profile communist figures were involved in Aleksiev's murder, among them poet and painter Krum Kyulyavkov and later journalist and party official Georgi Bokov, the father of current UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova"

This is what Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said about her "election" to her current position, her role in post-Communist Bulgaria and her reluctance to comment negatively about the Communist regime's past
