We have started the preparations for a Meetup of WH Travellers in 2026.

The main course will be the Condominio theatres of Central Italy, a nominated site for 2026. We will try to gain (exclusive) access to the interior of some of the theatres.
We will also include other nominated sites in the area.

The dates are not firm yet, but keep the weekends of May 9-10 and September 5-6 available in your agenda if you want to join (we're aiming for one of those).

Great! Not far from there is one location of the TWHS site of the Benedictine settlements, and in general it is a wonderful region to explore, which also includes a part of the Evaporite Karsts :-)

One way or the other I will probably have problems the 9-10 May. September sounds only slightly better... I hope to be there anyway.

I think Italy and Emilia Romagna should work for everyone.
* 3 (Chianti Factory Towns are also nearby) nominated tentative sites.
* Special treatment by arranging tour to theatre, 2026 candidate.
* Good food, good prices.
* Lots of hinterland with truly great sites (Pisa, Florence, Ravenna, Venice ...)
* Good transport with international airports and budget airlines operating.

One last point and Els will probably make this point more clear when the final date is set: The meetups are not a closed shop and we always invite newbies. They are very different from your usual organized tour group as all of us are very individualistically minded and mature travellers and there is plenty space and opportunities to meet and branch off if you feel more like seeing Pisa than the Chianti Factory town.

Hope everyone has a great time! Would love to attend another of these some day, but they generally aren't within our "quick trip" distance :)

An update on this:

Date will be: September 5-6

The programme will include: a tour to several of the Theatres (nominated 2026) and a visit to a Chianti town (candidate 2028). We have to strike out the Benedictine settlement mentioned earlier, as the ones in this region have been removed from the nomination.

I can use help with the following 2 questions:

1. Which of the Chianti towns is the most likely candidate to "certainly" be included in a nomination? That one should be our main aim.

2. Updates on the access status of the Theatres.
Teatro Angelo Mariani di Sant'Agata Feltria (has regular opening hours)
Teatro Bramante Urbania
Teatro Carlo Goldoni di Bagnacavallo
Teatro comunale Porto San Giorgio
Teatro della Fortuna Fano
Teatro dell'Aquila Fermo
Teatro Feronia San Severino Marche
Teatro Gentile da Fabriano Fabriano
Teatro Gian Carlo Menotti di Spoleto
Teatro Giuseppe Persiani Recanati
Teatro Lauro Rossi Macerata
Teatro Mugellini di Potenza Picena
Teatro Nicola Vaccaj Tolentino
Teatro Pergolesi di Jesi
Teatro Rossini Pesaro
Teatro Serpente Aureo Offida
Teatro sociale di Amelia
Teatro Ventidio Basso Ascoli Piceno

I will gladly do some "local" research about the theaters, but as of now I am a little impaired by device problems.

Just about one: Bagnacavallo is a lovely small town, recommended by the Touring Club guides, but visits to the theater are sporadic. We could contact the local tourist office, though, it could be nice.

Do we settle for a hub? As always it will be much easier if we all stay in the same town. Rimini or Ravenna would be possible candidates. Should be a town, close enough to reach the theatres and Chianti. Ancona is closest to most theatres, but too far from Chianti. Pesaro might work.

We should manage to find out as fast as possible, how many will participate. If we are 10+ it should not be a problem to organize a separate tour to many theatres. I can also help with that.

I contacted them already like 3 times via mail. They never answered. Maybe we should contact the theatre, not the tourist information.

13 said yes to this date in the WhatsApp group. I will post a broader inquiry when we agree on the basics, but 10 should be doable as a minimum

Agree, as long as it is easily reachable by public transport (Pesaro is)

Appreciate the early notification, however, will be playing the Schengen Dance and will be unable to attend this one. Hope 2027 is more favourable with my juggling act.

I know I say this every time but I would love to join you all on one of these meet-ups one year. Sadly, looking at my remaining annual leave, I can confidently say that this year will not be that year.
