Time for a new survey

This year marks the 10th birthday of our "top missing sites" survey. I think it would be nice to conduct a new one in 2025. The "most pupular" is probably outdated, as we have the star ranking now. I would also keep it at top 100. But would be interesting if the perception has shifted or if the ones we voted high and did not get inscribed are still up there.

I think it is perhaps worth revisiting. A fair bit has changed in the decade, and we have many more active community members now.

Also at work I sit opposite the team that run the Sight and Sound Greatest Film's Poll, which is perhaps the most widely respected poll of its kind in the film industry, and that happens every decade. I think establishing that for ourselves would be a nice aim :)

It would probably be worth starting somewhat a fresh. If we just revote on the ones from last time it may be a little underwhelming and there is a bias from the previous results. But a complete overhaul is probably a little too much.

Perhaps it is worth thinking of an approach?
-Should we generate a long/short list again or leave it open for people to suggest anything they like?
-Are there any things that we feel we got wrong with the last list?
-Did we not give enough focus to any specific regions or themes (West Africa, The Balkans, Central America, fungal colonies, Buddhism, pre-Colombian South American cultures, Role of Women, Palaeolithic sites, Minor Central European prince's summer palaces?, 20th/21st century cultural landscapes, Carcinisation) {if you couldn't tell those were just examples some of which aren't serious, rather than things I think were missed}
-If we do think there are gaps, should we spend sometime digging into them?
-or should we just do a quick and fun revote?

Agree

One of the alternative approaches (we can have multiple) could be to look at Other Lists for inspiration. For example, the geological heritage list of IUGS.

Oh yeah I think that is a good place to start from.

We still have the shortlist from our last top missing endeavour:

Since we put so much time and effort into making this list wouldn't it make sense to pursue this project and have some sort of voting on it?
If we chose to vote about it I would propose to vote on each UNESCO zone separately and then create a pool with the best sites from each region on which we could hold a final vote.

We could reuse it, but I'd like to see new input as well added

Are we still planning to do this? A new "Top Missing" list would be nice to celebrate the 10 years of the previous list.

Assif Only two of the eight WHS I'd really like to see (that I have written down at least!) are there, so I'm all for starting fresh.

Yes. Give me some time to prepare things. I will open a new topic for it later in February.

On this list I just spotted the Nakagin capsule tower in Tokyo which was torn down not so long time ago :-(
