Adding multiple languages to the app - help needed!

Hi everyone,

I am Simon, the developer of the World Heritage Collect app (iOS and Android). Recently, with the help of Els, I added the tentative sites to the app, as well as some other features. I am making this post because I have gotten the request to have multiple languages available in the app. This feature would involve translating the app elements, as well as the titles of the sites (a limited number of translated site titles are available on the official Unesco website).

In case anyone is interested in such a feature and wants his or her language to be added, I created a shared Google document here. In the document, if you see a placeholder (such as {type}), please use it also in the translation (see the Dutch one for examples).

Any help is appreciated! Once a language is complete, I will add it to the app. I have considered using AI for translations, but I do not think we can always trust the outcome and it is hard for me to verify the correctness.

Aside from the app elements, if you know of a resource or dataset that I can use for translating the heritage titles (including tentative...) that would be very helpful too!

Great idea! I could translate the Russian language sections (and if possible also add a Ukrainian translation which would mean translating all the site names but I could do that over a longer period of time). However, I'm worried that the placeholders may not grammatically fit in considering that they might need to change because of grammatical gender and cases (for example, in "Go to {adjective} list" vs "We successfully exported your {adjective} list", the adjective would have to be different each time for it to be grammatically correct).

Thanks for the feedback, you make a good point. In the case of {adjective} (which would be visited or wish), I just removed the placeholders and split the lines into two. If you run into any other problems, please let me know!
