Following up from Els blog post and our meetup in Brussels, I thought we simply started collecting sites that may be interesting for a meetup. Assumptions for selection:

* Site is a world heritage or a scheduled tentative site.
* Visit allows for more than 4 visitors -> No point in having a meetup if it's two parties (2x2).
* Visit is special: a) hard to get into, b) expensive on your own and benefits from splitting the costs, c) there is a special way / component to appreciate the site, or d) there is a unique experience.

Examples:
* a) Stoclet House: Inaccessible to general public.
* b) Surtsey. Boat ride for 1-10 people costs 1.200€ no matter how many passengers.
* c) Altamira Cave or Hotel Tassel => Other parts of the serial inscriptions are more readily available.
* d) Newgrange or Abu Simbel at Solstice.

Please feel free to post ideas and suggestions!

Mooshide Gathering every 2 years. The gathering was just held in late July and will be held again in Summer 2026. Near Dawson City, Moosehide is part of the Tr'ondëk-Klondike WHS in Canada. This is the only time of the year the village is open to the general public.

Summary of the Festival

"Launched in 1993, Moosehide Gathering is an inclusive event that congregates people from Canada, Alaska and international visitors to share and celebrate Hän traditions and culture. The three-day festival is held every second year at the heritage site of Moosehide village, downriver 3 kilometers from Dawson City. Everyone is invited to enjoy live performances, dancing, drumming and singing, guest speakers, arts and craft, feasts and more. Guests are invited to camp for free at Moosehide Village. Regular boat transportation is available for free from Dawson."

Tr'ondëk-Klondike could be combined with Wrangell-St. Elias (part of the Glacier Parks WHS). I hope to be doing this trip in July 2026, with my own vehicle.

Mooshide sounds so cool. I may join this if I am around at that time.

This sounds really cool!

About sites for meet-up, I should think about it. Would you also consider trekking visits, e.g. in Zagori, which are for sure better to perform in groups than alone?

As I recall, Algiers was an idea floating around some time ago. Looking at others' maps I think the community can benefit. I do think we could leverage a personalized tour through the Kasbah if safety is a concern.

I don't think you'd go to Algeria for just a few days (considering the size of the country and the need for a visa)

Algeria - M'Zab could fit the label?

Side note: Short visit (weekend trip possibility) was not stated as requirement, but could be added.

Hi! Has there been any updates on this front? I would be interested in joining if the timing works for me next year!

How about Dubai?
The Faya Paleolandscape will most likely be inscribed (every halfway decent Arab site makes the cut), currently only 7 people have visited it and none of them was at a meetup so far.
Dubai is probably the best connected place in the world and it can be done in a weekend or used as a stopover to go to other places.

I like the idea, I may even go via Dubai on my way to #1000 (my estimated date of arrival in Dubai would be one of the last days of Oct or very early Nov). This is later in the year than we normally have, but it makes no sense to go to the Gulf in summer anyway

Besides the Faya Paleolandscape we could cover in a weekend there:
- see if we find a way into Wadi Wurayah (2026 nomination)
- do a road trip along the TWHS in the 'other' Emirates (not being the major 3 Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah)
