We've now been publishing this list of contributors to this website / community members for so long, it is just a fact of life that we are confronted with WHS lovers that die. I'd still like to keep them among the list of our members. This new topic is to update you when I have been given notice of a death among our group.

Earlier this year of course we already had to say goodbye to Iain Jackson.

Yesterday I was made aware of the death of Christer Sundberg. He passed away already last year after an illness. Christer was active in the early hours on this website. He made youtube video's about his visits to WHS in a documentary manner (this was before vlogging was invented).

We met once: we visited Schokland together in March 2007 when he was in the Netherlands. He travelled a lot (mainly in Europe) at that time, before systematic / competitive travel became a thing. He was a big, eager guy ready to take on the world.

A sad news, he was one of very active contributors and his works are very useful. I used his informative review as references on my visit to Germany couples of years ago. RIP

Oh no that is very sad news.

Christer felt very much like a kindred spirit to me in the earlier days of this website, before the community developed on this forum it seemed that our travels and perspectives matched up a lot. I held his reviews in very high regards.

Very sad news indeed but thank you for letting us know.

Very sad news, indeed.
When I joined this website, Christer was one of the reviewers I trusted the most. His videos are very infomative and added a new colour to the review section.
RIP, and let's hope this thread doesn't grow too fast.

On April 11th, Michael Novins passed away in his home city of New York. He was only 58.

I met Michael once, when he visited the Netherlands and I drove him to Kinderdijk and the Van Nelle Factory. We talked non-stop during the ride, he was curious about everything and asked lots of questions. He made the best of every visit to a WHS/country/TCC location. Not only did he see the sights, but he also was on the look-out for great food experiences and rock concerts. The day that I drove him to the 2 WHS, he also went to a concert of the Dutch indieband from the 1990s, Bettie Serveert, on the other side of The Netherlands.

There's a good interview with him in the Chasing 193 book.

I'm sorry to hear about Michael. He sounds like he was quite the traveler, and I appreciate his reviews on lesser-visited sites.

Early members of this website may remember Jorge Sanchez. He posted reviews about his remote travels, always on the move, sleeping on beaches, etc. Jorge has recently passed away, according to this Facebook post.

You can learn more about him in this podcast where he was a guest.

Very sad news! Jorge Sanchez was a living legend.
One of the most impressive travellers of all times. He was born in 1954.
I ve read all his books. ...he did write in a quite entertaining way..
Rest in peace,Jorge! He even wrote a book about some of his UNESCO destinations.
He always gave priority to the UNESCO sites if possible.

It should be nteresting.
He was quiet young, sad.

It was quite interesting, but his last book was probably his best one....
He combined his travels with the history of Spain around the world, focusing on selected Spanish figures such as conquistadors, sailors, adventurers, and their experiences. A fascinating journey around the world with Spanish connections.
