Hi,
has anyone thought of putting all the data of this website into an app? so you always have it at hand?

Chris

What would be an added value of an app? An option to use the website offline? Maybe notifications, or easier login? Are those big enough improvements that would be worth the big effort of making an app? Maybe Els and Nan can comment on that.

I noticed that there are some plug-and-play converters to turn a website into an app, but I suspect that a whole lot of the functionality would not work anymore (login, maps, daily updates).

I think there are already apps where you can count your WHS score and get basic info about them.

There are some apps but none are nice.
I don't ment to plug-and-play convert it of course but have an interface. the same back-end database probably.

like tripadvisor website <> the app. you can do the same but it's different.
ofcourse the WHS app would be smaller and just dedicated to the sites.

I was just thinking this as i have been looking for a good app on my iphone.

Could be nice to have all the relevant content offline. But you can do this is in your browser/smart phone anyhow. If I am offline, I save all relevant schedules and information to my phone (print as pdf comes in handy).

In any case not happening. At least, not by me. I decided to redo the backend and that will keep me busy.

Does anybody use the World Heritage app from Collins? Seems to have been jointly created by UNESCO and Aimer Media/Collins. It is not bad, but hasn't been updated since spring 2017 (with the 2016 inscriptions)...

I use the "My World Heritage Passport" app. The nice thing is that I can always check where the nearest WHS are, that I can always see what my count is and that I can keep track of the visited WHS and also enter the date that I visited it (with the current day as default, ver easy), even when I'm not online (which is often the case when I travel). If I could do it with an app version of this site I can ditch the other one and I don't need to keep track at two places

If nothing else, the map here is far better than anything else available.

I was trying to find one of the Stecci in Montenegro I was trying to use this website on my phone, and it was really hard trying to use a map. It just didn't fit well.

An app would be a great tool, and a great way to maybe monetize the site. I'd pay for an app.

Shandos and I use an iOS app called World Heritage - UNESCO List which works pretty well. It works offline, and the only ads are affiliate links for booking.com which you can easily ignore. It gets pretty regular updates too and the developer has been quite responsive when I've suggested improvements or pointed out data errors.
