Discussions have been going for a while on the Gibraltar WHS post, but I think arrangements are clear enough now to fix the dates.

Location
Gibraltar

Dates
long weekend of 8 and 9 September

Programme
Friday September 8, 2017
- Visit to Gorham's Cave Complex in Gibraltar [reservations pending for a guided tour via Gibraltar museum]
- Meetup afterwards for a drink and/or a bite to eat

Saturday September 9, 2017 (optional extension)
- Day trip by ferry and taxi to the Medina of Tétouan in Morocco.

Before or afterwards: possibilities to tick-off those remaining Andalusian WHS

If you plan to participate, please send me an e-mail (els@worldheritagesite.org) or post here, and answer the following 3 questions:
1. Will you attend the Friday or Saturday part of the programme, or both?
2. Are you participating alone or will you bring a partner/friend?
3. Do you have the use of a (rented) vehicle in Andalusia?

Costs still have to be determined, but will not be high.

@Els: I somehow had expected you to have been to Tetouan?

Big comment: This will be our first meetup outside Europe! At least partially :D

We should define a location. Algeciras seems to be the best option... There was one hotel that had reviews with mice strolling around the breakfast room :D

>> 1. Will you attend the Friday or Saturday part of the programme, or both?
Both.

>> 2. Are you participating alone or will you bring a partner/friend?
Alone.

>> 3. Do you have the use of a (rented) vehicle in Andalusia?
No. Public transport will do.

>> 4. Sunday Plans
I need to get back to Malaga and want to tick off Antequerra. Not sure what is feasible.

No I haven't. I think your idea is great.

I'd wanted to stay in La Linea, but I can still change the hotel reservation when more people are going to Algeciras. It also depends on what time we have to be in Gibraltar for the tour.
I will attend both days, on my own (but with you all of course) and drive from and to Malaga (no flight booked yet).

I sent a reminder on this yesterday to the Gibraltar Museum confirming we would like a tour on the 8th, so hope to have confirmation soon.

>>1. I'm keen on both the Friday and Saturday trips, though I will be scanning the vaccine recommendations for Morocco to see if Meltwaterfalls Jrn is able to join.

>>2. At the moment I'm looking pretty good to be attending probably with wife and daughter.

>>3. I think we will travel by rental car, though we are just trying to work out what that entails with car seats and the like.

>>4. We will be aiming to get a trip to Granada in as well (and therefore Antequera), how that fits in around Gibraltar I'm not yet sure.

Hope this helps, meltwatrerfalls.

I'll be missing out on this year's meet up but 10 days later I plan to drive along this 'loop' to take in 5 WHS (leaving Seville and Donana NP for a future long weekend trip). After taking in Gibraltar, I plan to drive to Cordoba taking in Antequera along the way. Next I'll take in Baeza and Ubeda and finish with Granada before heading back to Malaga.

My plan is following: Sunday - drive from Gibraltar to Antequera, visit Dolmen, drive to Ubeda, visit and spend the night. Monday - drive to Baeza and maybe Jaen - drive to Granada, visit Alhambra, stay for the night. Tuesday - spend time in Granada, drive to Malaga, take flight back home.

I was not aware that Gibraltar had been considered for a while as the next meetup site, but I was thinking myself Gibraltar would be nice. We all think in the same way :) perhaps because Gibraltar is in such a far corner of Europe that not many of us have been in the area, although more of us have probably been to Seville, Cordoba and Granada.

If I go,

1: Yes, both days.

Having been mugged by the Moroccans in Cordoba in 2004, I am keen on going to Tetouan in a group. :)

2: Alone.

3: No car.

My tentative plan:

Wed. 6: Berlin - Malaga - Antequera (WHS) - Sunlucar

Thu. 7: Sunlucar - Donana (WHS) - Sunlucar - Gibraltar

Fri. 8: Gibraltar - Rock (WHS) - Gibraltar

Sat. 9: Gibraltar - Tetouan (WHS) - Gibraltar

Sun. 10: Gibraltar - Malalga

Mon. 11: Malaga - Berlin

I haven't done much research yet, but is staying in Gibraltar itself more costly (or perhaps less interesting) than La Linea or Algeciras? To be sure, I don't like costly places. :)

I really hope to make this trip, but with me it's always not so certain.

I have now 4 home towns, Tokyo, LA, Berlin, and Wroclaw, Poland, where I am living until the end of August when I plan to move back to Berlin.

I have a wife at each home town. So who knows what would happen to me in early September? Just kidding. :)

Els,

Sorry to be slow to reply. the answers to your questions are:

1. We (see below) will be there for both days, but will remain in Tetouan on Saturday evening (before heading off to Rabat.

2. We are wife, Freda, 20 year old son Euan and myself

3. I think it is unlikely that we will have use of a car.

So these dates are definite, right? September 8 and 9?

I'm ready to purchase plane tickets.

We haven't had a final confirmation yet from the Gibraltar Museum guys. Can you give us an update, meltwaterfalls?

Our 2017 meeting is getting really popular, I've noted down 17 participants already. Almost all will go to Tetouan as well, so thanks again for the great idea nfmungard!

They have gone very quiet at the Gibraltar museum I've sent a few chase ups. I think everything is ok, but still haven't received final confirmation. I guess they will be closed for Easter now, but I'll chase again.
As soon as hear I'll let you know
