There have been many great pictures prior to this, but I just saw Frederik's review of Canterbury and wanted to point out the picture to go with it was great!

I sometimes struggle to get a picture that both encapsulates what I thought was good about the site, and also doesn't replicate what was on the page beforehand. Frederick's one though is manages to do both. So either well done for taking it, or well done for sourcing it

There are many more great pictures on here but just wanted to pick that one out.

I'm a Big fan of Bernard's photo for George Town. I like the fact it has focused more on the atmosphere rather than the monuments, sometimes that can tell a better story.

That's actually a picture of a famous mural

I assumed so. It reminded me of Mrs Meltwaterfalls holiday photos, much more interesting than my postcard style snaps. Thanks for the link to the details though.

Clyde's one for the Val d'Orcia really is worthy of a mention here. It goes really well with the review too by showing the quintessential 'picturesque view' which is a key component of its OUV.

thanks meltwaterfalls. That spot is on several postcards in Tuscany but I just ventured a bit further just before sunset amidst the rolling hills. That's why in such vast places it's not a question of ticking the WHS off the list but if possible one should try to dedicate more time to be able to grasp the OUV. In places such as the Taj, Giza, Angkor, Great Wall, Macchu Picchu, etc. the OUV is immediately obvious, in others it isn't.

just wanted to point out (perhaps to Els) that the photo in Bernard Joseph Esposo Guerrero's review of Etruscan Necropolis of Cerveteri and Tarquinia is misplaced. The picture in his review is actually of the Hypogeum in Malta!

To me the most stonking picture in this website is Paul Tanner's in the Giza Plateau! It's really great!

Thanks Clyde - but of course the picture itself isn't really very "good", rather, the location of its taking is "unusual"!!

I think I had a Pentax SLR in those far off days and set off on holiday with just 4 or 5 rolls of AGFA CT18 diapositive film (ie 18 ASA speed) each of 36 shots - so they had to be rationed and I only got the one shot from the top!! Nowadays it would have been hundreds - and movies too!!!! I have the same "regrets" of my only photo at the summit of Kilimanjaro and at Everest Base Camp. Just faded memories of the 1970s. Luckily a scanner and a bit of "photoshopery" helps revive the faded colours,

It still is a great photo with the Great Pyramid in the background from a very unusual location.
It's true that you might regret not having so many photos but surely some memories never fade away.
I take several photos nowadays, yet still the best photos I tend to remember most are those I didn't manage to take or I could not take. It's incredible how our brain works!

As ever Clyde, really like your photos accompanying your current Portuguese reviews. It always helps when there are clear blue skies but the pictures are great, and the one of the Port House for Alto Douro is perhaps my favourite.

Thanks Meltwaterfalls! Indeed clear blue skies do help! However, I try to upload photos with different highlights not uploaded by other reviews too. If you'd like to see my photos on Flickr just drop me a line on clyde.trigger@yahoo.com so I can add you as a contact.

I'm not sure if Tsunami reads this forum, but I really like your picture for the Sacri Monte. It almost looks like a series of Becher photo's and that is a winner in my book.

I was just having a look at winterkjm's Flickr feed that he posted with his recent reviews of the Statue of Liberty and Independence Hall, there are some great ones on there but the one I liked most was this one of interior of the Statue of Liberty.

Glad you had more luck with Independence Hall than we did!

I just wanted to give a shout out to Jay T for his profile picture. Dedicated to make up your own sign for a significant visit. I really like that!

Nice Calvin and Hobbes reference to!
