This list is to keep track of all good ideas posted which I would like to implement on the website, but have to wait for rainy Sundays or my retirement:

- Organize voting for Top 50 Missing This is on hold for at least a couple of months more, as I'd like to draw more visitors (and voters!) first to the forum. In the mean time you all can think of even more worthy Missing WHS (some natural sites would be nice; and do we have a mixed one already?

- Make possible to link to personal photo pages

- Try to fix that uploading photos larger than 1 MB doesn't work (have looked into this already, but cannot find the root of the problem

- Do something creative with the decisions 'database' that has been compiled and now shown only on the individual site pages (suggestions include: how many of the rejected sites got in later, year within country - how "active" has a country been?, year within type of decision - how "tough" has WHC been and how poor have countries been at preparing valid proposals?, year within type of decision within country - what has a country's "record" been?, whether the IUCN/ICOMOS recommendation has been followed, sites which were rejected/deferred etc and no longer figure on the T List

- New format for the country pages

- Finish the backlog of Connections I still have to go through and to add

- Merge Categories and Connections (on hold for a moment, I'm not sure where to go from here)

- Revisit Categories to see if really only the prime aspect of a site is rewarded (others can become Connections)

- Introduce maps (Also looked into this one already, I would like to have an overview map on the country pages and a zoomable location map on each site page; still struggling with some technical & content difficulties)

- Every site page should have one main photo and the introduction should start with a clear statement WHAT the site is and WHY is has been made a WHS.

- Add "value" to visited sites

If you'd like to see any other changes, please post them below at this topic.

Right now we have to enter on our profile how much WHS we have visited. It would be really handy if there would be a complete list of the sites and you can check which ones you have visited. Each profile then automatically indicates how much sites you have visited, and which ones. This way you don't have to keep a double bookkeeping. It also makes it an extra advantage to sign up for this site so you will probably get more visitors.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about PHP so I cannot help you ;-)

That's a good thing to have indeed, Joyce. If there's someone around that can help me with the PHP script, please! I've been experimenting a bit today and came about half way.

If you do go down the "dynamic web page" road, the same logic/layout/dialog could be tweaked to do things like recording
a. Votes for "Top 50 missing" (assuming of course that the list was "DBed")
b. Least inspiring
c. Something along the lines of Bowfell's "Comparative scoring system" (which was perhaps a bit complex in its initial suggestion).

If you do find a PHP expert (or develop your own expertise!) please design it so that we can make entries quickly from a list of "All", "Continent" or "Country" rather than pulling each one up individually from a drop down as per the reviews - that is ok as reviews are going to be done 1 at a time. But not visited lists or voting. I find both the "Virtual Tourist" and "Most Travelled People" have awkward dialogs for selecting locations to add to a list in that they only allow them to be done 1 at a time - even at the country level (Though the latter has managed to define over 600 of these!). I just gave up bothering it was such a hassle

What about this format?

Yes - very quick. I think listing the sites by country would enable users to find the ones they are interested in/want to add pretty quickly. Presumably it would show "ticks" as previously entered by the logged-on individual. Would/could there be "count" which would be updated after "send"?
And for other uses?
a. The list could be a different one to the same format - eg "Nominated for Top 50"
b. The boxes could be defined to allow the entry of numbers (eg a score value) and impose a maximum a count after a send (eg No more than 50 votes!)

Yes, there's a count now already. I'm still working on a few additional features for visitors who are logged-on.

Done! I spent the whole day programming, but I think it works fine now. The logged on users will find a new option Your Count of Visited Sites to use.
The count on the Community overview page automatically grabs the latest count of this checklist (or the old manual count if a user hasn't filled in the checklist yet).

Let me know if you encounter any errors or problems. I tested with my 284!

Excellent Els, and so quick!
Now we can start dispatching you as a PHP programmer in stead of being a bid manager ;-)
I'm happy I now have a track list of the places I've been to.
Two comments:
1. I am not exactly sure since I loose count every time I try to check it, but it seems that when you have a site that is in multiple countries, and you check it with both countries (like I did with Victoria Falls for Zimbabwe as well as Zambia), it counts it as two sites.
2. I was looking through the HTML code, nerd as I am, and I saw the name of the checkbox is still test[] ;-)
Just minor details, other than that it seems to be working fine!
Time for a new mailinglist item so everybody knows they can use it from now on :-)

Oh, and not to make you program all weekend, but...
Since this part is working now, I have another idea to improve the site. With every page about a site, you could now list "This site was visited by:" and then the names of the people who visited it (it's in your database anyway).
If you make links so you can contact those people (with respecting their privacy of course), this site would turn in a real community where members can contact each other. It would be very helpful when you're planning to visit a site, that you can ask a direct question to someone who has already been there (since not everybody looks at this forum obviously, I'm still waiting for any info on the Romanian sites... ;-) )

I had already thought of that, it does only count it as one!

This also makes it easy to see which WHS are visited most (and least) by us, as in this example. It will result in something like this.

oh, I did find a bug:
on the community list (http://www.worldheritagesite.org/community.php) I moved all the way down to the bottom since I have only 0 sites visited ;-)
