I want to visit the Antequera Dolmens Site on our way from Granada to Cordoba and we will travel by public transit. I will travel with a friend who is not too much interested in World Heritage, so ticking off all 5 locations is not going to happen ;-) Which location is best to visit and what is the best way to get there?

I hope to visit this WHS this year when I'll be travelling by rental car in Andalucia and Gibraltar. It seems that the best place to visit if you want to have a good overview of what this WHS entails is the Dolmen de Menga and its visitor centre. That way you'll at least get a glimpse of what the natural component entails.

Actually, there are only four sites, the Dolmen de Menga and Dolmen the Viera are next to each other. I would recommend this site if you have only little time, it is only about 2 km from the train station and the city centre. One hour is enough to visit the two dolmen, the site is accessible from 9 am to 6 pm without siesta break (Mondays closed).
The Dolmen el Romeral is another 4 km from the city centre, but I have no information on public transport, we travelled by rental car.
If you have more time, El Torcal might be interesting. It is about 10 km from Antequera to the visitor centre, a karst landscape, an one hour trail would be enough to get an impression.
The second natural site is not accessible, but you have a perfect view to the "lying face" from the Menga Dolmen.

We travelled from Malaga to Granada via Antequera in November. 5 days car hire was cheaper than the return bus fares for two people! Worth checking out. Antequera is s nice Andalusian worth a few hours especially around lunch time.

We were in Antequera a few days ago. I am not very much Info neolithic Sites. I found newgrange more interesting and also Cerveteri in Italy. But i was wondering that El Torcal is not inscribed as a mixed site. It is quite a interesting Natural Landscape formed by Erosion and ist similar to Bryce Canyon in its significance. At least that ist my Point of View. We enjoyed the Walk around El Torcal AS one of the highlites of our Andalucia travels
