Here are two files with my working data on them (NB they will disappear on 22nd February)

T-list mwf Old Map - This is the raw data from the "old" map that used to be linked to at the top of the website, that we have been checking against so far. It doesn't have the relevant T-List codes or anything useful on it for cross referencing or VLOOKUP etc.
tlist full (June 2015) - This was my attempt to create a fuller version with data scraped off of the official website and a fair chunk of co-ordinates. As the name suggests it is how the t-list looked in June 2015.

If people think that full list option is a good idea, I will try and set off a scrapper to get a fully up-to date t-list file.

I note that over 50% of the sites have no location on the Unesco website, and no multiple locations were captured. I don't know how much work it is to get a fully updated file for 2017? It could at least provide a starting point from where we can add and change.

Great project, I would take Austria and France, because I've a lot of the coordinates of the French T list already in my files. But I will wait until Els provide instructions how to post the coordinates here in the forum.

Solivagant did a great job for the first countries. I tried to find coordinates for the Algerian sites he did not found and would suggest a few corrections for the Mausolée TWHS. Here my suggestions with the sources:

The two websites for Ichoukkane – Pleiades and Digital Atlas of the Roman Empire - may be useful to identify ancient sites, in particular Roman Empire.

Solivagant and I have been experimenting a bit with uploading from an Excel-sheet, and this seems to work fine. The idea is (especially for the countries with large tentative lists) that I send 'the owner of a country' an Excel spreadsheet with the corresponding basic data (think of names of the tentative sites, id's, country id's etc), and that you complete it with providing the location coordinates and the multiple locations.

I don't mind smaller countries being posted on the forum, but anything above 10 TWHS or so is much easier for me to handle via Excel.

The plan of action for now:
1. meltwaterfalls checks whether he can repeat his scraping trick for the 2017 situation within a few days
2. nfmungard will redo the country map so the twhs locations will be visible too (and we have to change the twhs.php too, maybe I can do that)
3. I will initially fill the database with the data gathered by meltwaterfalls
4. From then on we can go on optimizing country by country. Volunteers that have claimed countries to do: Germany (nfmungard), France (Hubert), Austria (Hubert), Iran (Solivagant), UK (Solivagant). For countries with large T-lists I'll provide a spreadsheet to the one who has claimed it, smaller ones can just be posted at the forum in one go.

Thanks Hubert - I accept all your suggestions.
The thing which is worrying me is how the coordinates I proposed "got there"! There was certainly no reason for me to choose them as I normally use Google Earth to ensure that I can "see" the remains and there was nothing present at my coords- A lesson I guess to double check all co-ords before submitting them.

Tlist full (Feb 2017) - This is an update of the file I shared yesterday which has more info: Description, criteria, Region, Co-ordinates where available. There will be some sites on there that don't currently have co-ordinates that we do actually have them available for either on my T-list mwf Old Map file above (many will have transferred over to it but it may not have been a 100% pick up) or from the work that has already started here.

Alas I won't have anytime to look into these further for the next week, so if anyone wants to do more with them then feel free to jump on in.

Am i correct in thinking that we will have c30 - 35% of T list SITES filled and that sites with multiple LOCATIONS will, at best, only have 1 pair of coordinates?
If that is the case then the task we have is both to try to complete missing coordinates at the site level but also to identify multi location sites whether or not they have a single set of coordinates identified by MW and then discover coordinates for each location?
A q to Meltwaterfalls - if i look at Mousa etc for UK you have identified a single pair of coordinates for a site with 3 locations. I presume we cannot "know" which of the 3 locations they apply to?

Does anyone know a good site for converting degrees, minutes and seconds into decimal degrees. The only ones i have found require that each element be input separately - it would nice to be able to input a single lat/long as e.g N43 21 55.00 W5 50 45.60 and get it converted! And better stil to be able to convert the lat and long separately to provide Els's format!

I generally use Google Maps, it provides the easy copyable conversion in the main blue block to the left

I updated the country site and it's with Els for review now. But I will be travelling tomorrow and can't tinker as much as I would like to. So I have proposed to Els to put the "new" version in her test folder for the time being. So you can see it, but it's not yet officially shown on the site.
