Perhaps this can be a place to highlight special opportunities in specific countries. More than the common free parks week (US, South Africa), but when a whole host of UNESCO or National Parks are free.

Canada - All national parks will be free for the entire year to celebrate the 150th anniversary. Essentially ALL (or nearly all) Canadian UNESCO sites will be free.

Only 7 of the UNESCO sites in Canada are national parks (one is called a national park, but it is really a provincial park in Quebec).

- Nahanni
- Kluane
- SGang Gwaay (Located in Gwaai Haanas National Park)
- Wood Buffalo
- Rocky Mountain Parks (Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay)
- Gros Morne
- Waterton Lakes (along with Glacier NP in the US)

The remaining 11 sites are provincial or not under the auspicies of Parks Canada.

Visa free entrance to Kazakhstan for citizens of 19 countries until Dec 31, 2017.
To stimulate tourism, and "Increase the number of people wishing to attend major international events scheduled in the next two years, such as EXPO-2017 in Astana and the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty"

It's on my list of prospects for a visit next year!

What is Free?
- Admission to national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada
- Lockage fees for Parks Canada's historic canals and waterways.

This should include these sites, no?
- Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada
- L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site of Canada
- Red Bay National Historic Site of Canada
- Rideau Canal National Historic Site of Canada
- Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site

I am fairly sure 12/18 WHS are operated by Parks Canada
