Prehistoric Pile Dwellings in Switzerland?

Hi all,
I have been wondering how to "visit" the prehistoric pile dwellings... I have an experience similar to what Els reported in her review: realize that most (if not all?) of the unesco property in Switzerland is underwater, so I just went to visit the Laténium museum near Neuchâtel...
Interesting enough, but I can't really decide that I "visited" this site, given that the museum is not part of the protected area.
Is that simply a site which is impossible to tick, at least for the Swiss part? Where are the most accessible really visible parts in other countries and how to approach it?
It seems the other reviewer mentions an area in the Dolomites, it seems there are remaining dwellings visible in France. What about other areas?
(Or am I maybe missing something?)
Thanks for all advice...

Hi patphilly,

We actually had a bit of a discussion about this on another thread a few months ago:

It seems the best bet if you wanted to visit them is in northern Italy.

In regards to Switzerland I'm not 100% but I don't think there are any that are properly visible there.

Will have another explore a little later as this one fascinates me, from a travel perspective anyway.

Indeed, it seems that north of the Lake Garda is the best choice, if you want to see original piles.
I'm not sure about the French site, whether the piles are visible throughout the year. My only clue so far is the photo on the UNESCO website.
None of the other sites around Lake Garda nor the sites in Austria, Germany, and Slovenia are visible, they are all underwater or under the ground.

haha, thanks. OK that one may seem a little trickier to get than I initially thought then... Well, unless I 'cheat' and decide that that museum visit near Neuchâtel "counts"...
