Yes, today they celebrated a lots of removals from the "in danger" list: I got Ghadamès, Abou Mena, others... but missed Atsinanna.
I was distracted and on top of that a little confused. Anyway, if I understood well the ICOMOS representative noticed that this year there is a record of requests for
disendangerments, surpassing the actual candidatures for nominations! And I think he was rather pissed off by that.
Again if I was attentive enough, the harshest discussions were between Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Poland. I missed the exact point about St. Sophia in Kyiv, which stays on the "in danger" list, but then Ukraine had some remarks to make on the risks of turistic exploitations of some Russian sites (especially Altai).
Another "topical" moment was the awkward situation when discussing Maloti-Drakensberg, when South Africa passed the word to Zambia (I don't know why not Lesotho), who passed it back to South Africa, then they asked the secretary to explain the situation, but he replied that this is up to the state parties, and finally, apaprently reluctantly, Zambia said something.
