The same well-represented countries seem as committed and able to submit new nominations yearly. In Asia you have China, India, Japan, and Iran. In Europe you have Germany, Italy, France, and Spain.

We should have most documents on May 31st (unless I am mistaken). This 44th World Heritage Convention (which combines 2020 and 2021) will be the largest catalogue of nominations since 2004. Granted this is due to the pandemic year(s) abnormality, yet it certainly will be a sizable update in both many user's WHS count, new reviews, and updates to future travel plans.

2 differences between winterkjm list above and the following lists:

https://www.worldheritagesite.org/nominated/2020
https://www.worldheritagesite.org/nominated/2021

- Frontiers of the Roman Empire - Danube Limes
- Roșia Montană Mining Cultural Landscape (Romania)

And so, 47 or 48 in total?

I was watching the IUCN facebook & twitter pages, but maybe they give feedback first to the countries and publish the evaluations later.

Main reasons for Deferral from IUCN (according to reports)

- Did not include complete tidal flat ecosystems (total area) in terms of biodiversity *sounds like IUCN preferred larger protected areas, similar to the Sinan tidal flat in scope
- Insufficient buffer zones *Korea may have had reservations about large buffer zones in coastal communities that mostly center around fishing or tourism

Korea will seek to overturn the Advisory Body in this case, which is slightly surprising since Korea sometimes withdraws a nomination if a deferral recommendation is given. Korea may be satisfied plenty with a Referral, if inscribe is clearly not supported amongst the committee. Expanding some of the tidal flats and satisfying IUCN with well-defined, extended buffer zones does not seem like a massive challenge, but we shall see. It was perhaps telling that the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea has not announced new nominations for either 2023 or 2024, is it because they wanted a back-up plan for the potential 2nd (or 3rd) attempts for the Getbol or even Gaya Tumuli nominations? The Getbol nomination specifically is very complex with large components around coastal areas and islands, indeed this is the second attempt after an "incomplete" nomination. At this point in time, Korea, which has 14 WHS might expect plenty of "hoops" to jump through regarding IUCN and ICOMOS evaluations. I for one have no issue with IUCN pushing Korea to a high standard in regards to the protection and expansion of Getbol. Just ten years ago during a conservative Government, the Saemangeum tidal flats were irrevocably damaged and destroyed for land reclamation purposes.

I see hardly any other natural sites on the combined list. Badain Jaran Desert, Kaeng Krachan, Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands, Classical Karst, Beech forests extension...

Padova Urbs picta, Giotto's Scrovegni Chapel and Padua's fourteenth-century fresco cycles (Italy)

A very strong yes from ICOMOS according to this report.

https://corrieredelveneto.corriere.it/padova/politica/21_maggio_11/padova-arriva-primo-si-dell-unesco-l-urbs-picta-zaia-straordinario-28ef16f0-b291-11eb-8935-ad8b250c3448.shtml

Possible name change to: Cycles of frescoes from the 14th century in Padua
