Mozu-Furuichi Kofungun, Ancient Tumulus Clusters (Japan) - Because 2 Japanese nominations are already planned for 2015, I assume the article means Japan will submit the property to UNESCO in 2015. Therefore, the likely evaluation of the nomination by the WHC will come in 2016.

Another site from Germany that is scheduled for decision in 2016: Francke Foundation Buildings

http://hallespektrum.de/nachrichten/vermischtes/franckesche-stiftungen-der-lange-weg- zum-unesco-weltkulturerbe/43634/

It has been reported that the first site from the new German T-list (will be published in 2014) could be nominated in 2017. Thus, I've tried to find out how they want to proceed with the current list (10 sites).

2014
Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey (Cultural)
Wadden See extension (Natural), nominated by Denmark, German extension covers additional offshore areas of the Niedersachsen Wadden Sea National Park

2015
Speicherstadt and Chilehaus with Kontorhaus District, Hamburg (Cultural)
Naumburg Cathedral and the landscape of Saale and Unstrut (Cultural Landscape) or Erzgebirge Mining (Cultural Landscape, with Czech Republik)

2016
Francke Foundation (Cultural)
Naumburg Cathedral and the landscape of Saale and Unstrut (Cultural Landscape) or Erzgebirge Mining (Cultural Landscape, with Czech Republik)

Both cultural landscapes – Erzgebirge and Naumburg – are scheduled for submission in February 2014. So if both nominations are complete, one of them must be selected for 2015.

Le Corbusier buildings Weissenhof Siedlung, probably nominated by France in 2016.
Viking sites Danevirke and Hedeby, will be nominated by Iceland, year unknown

Heidelberg and Schwetzingen will probably not make a further attempt.

Here the sources for Hamburg, Naumburg and Erzgebirge:

hmm, I love Germany but working on 8 inscription in 3 years for an already well/over represented country does seem to go against the spirit that I would prefer European countries to follow.

Does anyone know the background on the Naumberg cathedral proposal?
The blurb on the UNESCO website talks exclusively about the cathedral, yet it is being put forward as a cultural landscape. It seems like a pretty transparent fudge of trying to get yet another western European cathedral on the list, by calling it a CL. Or is there something really significant about the church's role in the use of rivers here?

Either way I'm sure it is lovely, I'm just not really taken on the methods being followed.

That's also my impression. Originally, only the cathedral was put on the list. Later the title was changed and several rather mediocre secular and sacred buildings within a radius of about 10 km around Naumburg have been added.
The nomination website and a broschure provides short descriptions of the monuments (both in German):
http://www.welterbeansaaleundunstrut.de/de/antragsgebiet-copy.html
http://www.welterbeansaaleundunstrut.de/media/hauptnavi/aktuelles/pdf/welterbe_brosch ur_web.pdf

The universal value of the landscape is said to be the "high density of preserved monuments from the High-Middle Ages (10th to 13th Century)" and the "still visible characteristics of the landscape in form of vineyards, traditional orchards, mills and irrigation."
Certainly, the 2000 pages of the nomination file will include a bulk of historical data to support the concept of a cultural landscape, but I doubt that it will be convincing.

In my opinion, the Hamburg nomination has the best chances for an inscription, both parts - Chilehaus and Speicherstadt - are outstanding.
The Erzgebirge has also good chances, I guess, 44 German and about 5 Czech locations represent mining activity over a period of several centuries: silver, tin, zinc, cobalt, nickel, copper, lead, and uranium. I've only visited the town of Freiberg many years ago, long before I began to tick off WHS. Thus, I can't say anything about the quality of the individual sites. But the description on the nomination website (German parts only) looks quite interesting - and it's a really nice landscape.

From the news about 2016 on UAE site. UAE plans to nominate Umm Al Quwain which is currently not in tentative list which is quite strange as for 2017 the Sharjah site is already listed on the tentative one. Btw after check Umm an-Nar Island is in Abu Dhabi territory and is not in Umm Al Quwain, a totally different site and emirate.

Hi Durian
Assif posted on this possibility back on 17th Feb under this subject above. Do you have a link for this latest news ? I am just planning a 3 day stop over in UAE in just over a week's time and have to decide my sequence of preference for seeing its T List sites. Al Ain is turning out a lot bigger than I had expected and something will probably have to give from the T list. I had better make sure it isn't the 2016 nomination!! And, if that may be a new T List entry I had better try to take it in!

Umm Al Qwein is one of the 7 emirates which make up the UAE and is named after its capital city/town. Its currentT List entry is the Archaeological site of Ed-Dur (AKA Ad-Dur, Al Dur, Ad'dur) to the N of the town - the Emirates seem to have a policy of sharing out the T List entries! Presumably the news you have discovered relates to the town houses as in the 17th Feb link and implies that these have overtaken Umm Al Qwein's existing T List site

Hi Solivagant,

I also did plan to visit UAE in December, that why I did some research, it seem that the link provided by Assif is the latest info I can find. Actually the reason I post is at first I read the summary of winterkjm so I understood all the time that Umm an-Nar Island will be 2016 proposal, but after checked with Assif link and other info, it turn out to be Umm Al Quwain.

I agreed that UAE may have sharing policy on WHS, Al Ain is in Abu Dhabi, while 2014 is Dubai time, so 2016 for Umm Al Qwein (whether Ed-Dur or Heritage house) and then Sharjah in 2017 look make sense, than Umm an-Nar Island from Abu Dhabi again! For tentative list, I think they still have time to add, or maybe pending to see Dubai Creek result.

Actually I plan to see some tentative site, but then I decided to see only Dubai Creek then Al Ain before enter Oman to see the finished Balah Fort.

Seowon Confucian Academies

That would be a suggestion that suits me - I visited the Dosan Seowon in Andong. It is very close to the Hahoe WHS however. Wonder if "a lot of" Confucian Academies are better than one specific example.

The Oksanseowon Confucian Academy is already inscribed as part of the Yangdong cluster. It is being put forward with these, so I guess safety in numbers is need to make sure it isn't compared too closely with that already inscribed site. Surprisingly Yangdong's other outlying site is Donggangseowon Confucian Academy but that doesn't seem to be part of the 2016 propossal

For those wondering if you have already doubled up, Oksanseowon and Donggangseowon are some way from the main Yangdong village (8km West, 3km East respectivly), so would have required special effort to visit.

Sosuseowon URL (Great pictures) is perhaps the most well-known Confucian Academy in Korea. It was the first to be sponsored by the state.
