Seems very early but we are already getting some ideas of what might be nominated for 2014. They have less than 2 years now to put together their Nomination File/Management Plans (closing Jan 2013). Lots of opportunities yet for slippage of course but who would bet against China achieving it for the Grand Canal?
See http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/98649/7333928.html

We "need" a topic for the 2013 WHC as well - whoever first sees something about a site preparing for that date could start it?? Any site aiming for that date should be very well advanced in preparation for a closing date now only 10 months away (end Jan 2012)!!

South Korea is planning to insribe at least one site in 2014 (I vaguely remember seeing somewhere the Southwestern Coast Tidal Flats may also seek inscription in 2014)

US seems to be considering Poverty Point and Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings from its T List for consideration in 2014 (but can only be one of them though the article doesn't seem to realise this?)

San Antonio Missions/Alamo seems fairly certain now for 2013 so the Ohio earthworks seem to have been delayed.

Of Mt Vernon ...... nothing??

Perhaps a mistake concerning the Frank Lloyd Wright nomination, or an additional serial site.

The link names 11 sites that make up the nomination, however only 10 sites have been listed in the nomination. So it's either a mistake or this site has been added to the nomination.

Herbert and Katherine Jacobs House, Madison, Wisconsin
(constructed in 1937 and is considered by most to be the first Usonian home.)

*I guess I should be happy, as someone who grew up in Wisconsin, there may now be 3 FLW sites included in this WH nomination.

There are alot of sites that keep coming up for the next US nomination to be reviewed by the WHC.

Cultural
San Antonio Missions
Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings
Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks & Serpent Mound
Poverty Point

Natural
Petrified Forest National Park

It is still not guranteed that there will be a site ready for the 2013 WHC, but it is clear 2014 will be a big year for the US world heritage program.

Press release by the National Park Service's Office of Communications.

2014 WHC
Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings
Poverty Point

Still no insight into the US having 2 cultural sites up for inscription. Perhaps the US will be allowed to break the rules?

Summary of the current US world heritage nominations.

If all goes to plan the US will submit 2 complete world heritage nominations in 2013, in which they (1 or 2?) would be ready for the 2014 WHC.

Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings
Poverty Point State Historic Site and National Monument

On a side note there is one addition to the Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings - "The Conservancy also requested that the Herbert and Katharine Jacobs House in Madison, Wisconsin, Wright's first ''Usonian'' house, be added to the group of buildings."

Another site from Japan! Two sites planned for 2013, and now one for 2014.

An update on the progress and delays concerning the Silk Road Nomination. While the new tentative date is 2014. There is not a lot of confidence the applications can be completed in time particularly by the Central Asian countries. Furthermore, other countries getting involved (India, Korea, Japan) seems to have complicated the nomination somewhat.

It seems that France will try to inscribe Cultural Landscape of Burgundy and Chauvet Pont D'Arc Grotto on the list by 2014.

According to this German website the Chilehaus in Hamburg will be nominated in 2013 for decision in 2014:

http://www.news.de/medien/855120307/chilehaus-soll-2013-als-welterbe-nominiert-werden /1/

I hope it's credible. The Chilehaus together with Kontorhaus District and Speicherstadt deserves a place on the list, I think.

Seems I was a bit fast concerning the Chilehaus nomination for 2014. I've done some google search trying to figure out the current schedule for the German nominations.
That are the information I have found (from the websites of the sites and current newspaper articles):

Kassel, Water features and Hercules, nominated for 2013
Westwork and Civitas Corvey, 2014
Chilehaus with Kontorhaus District and Speicherstadt, 2015
Mining and Cultural Landscape Erzgebirge, 2015 or 2016
Francke Foundation Buildings, 2017
Naumburg Cathedral and the landscape of the rivers Saale and Unstrut, nomination file not ready before 2015, decision 2016 or 2017

Concerning the other sites on the T list:
Le Corbusier mansions of the Weissenhof-Siedlung: it's not clear what happens with the serial nomination, the local authorities are uncertain whether to make a bid for the whole Weissenhof as a single nomination
Viking Monuments Danevirke and Hedeby, part of a transnational serial nomination by Iceland, date is not yet known
Heidelberg, no efforts for another attempt

Westwork and Civitas Corvey, 2012

Somehow I have completely missed this proposal, I didn't even map it when I did the German t-list (I will pick that up again sometime I promise).

I do like the Chilehaus, but I must admit none of those proposals really set my world alight. Still I guess a fair few will be successful and I can look forward to making the most of a Länder-Ticket heading to them.
