My selection:

Acropolis (iconic and most important site in Greece)
Agrigento (one of the best preserved Greek sites outside of Greece)
Delphi (very important site of Ancient Greece)
Hierapolis (mostly for Pamukkale though)
Mycenae (lions' gate alone is a shoo-in for me)
Olympia (importance for sports too)

Acropolis - representing the leading position of Athens amongst city-states and for its influential architecture
Agrigento - prime example of a Greek colony and for its great row of Doric temples
Aigai - for its royal tombs and wall paintings, and for representing the late Classic period and Macedonians
Delphi - "religious centre and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world"
Mycenae & Tiryns - representing the Mycenaean civilization, which dominated the eastern Mediterranean world from the 15th to the 12th century B.C
Olympia - for the Olympic Games, a tradition that exists til this day

A difficult one - how do we "Westerners" avoid over-valuing sites which we have come to view as representing the very roots of our civilisation?

First the shoo-ins -Acropolis, Delphi, Mycenae and Olympia
Which leaves 13. How to choose? Historical Significance? Representative of Greek Colonisation? Inclusion of a Town/City? Different "styles/periods?
-Agrigento - YES - Should be the "chosen colony" Great Doric Temple, "some of the largest and best-preserved ancient Greek buildings outside of Greece itself."
-Aigai (Vergina) - MAYBE - "This was the capital city of a relatively short-lived but extremely influential state that played a seminal role in a decisive political change in the classical world, and as such it must be considered to be unique." Tombs are very significant but how many "Greek" periods should we cover?
-Butrint - NO - more of a multi-cultural site whose Greek remains are not that outstanding
-Cyrene - NO - would have to be primarily for the Temple of Apollo. I think I give the "Greek colony" prize to Agrigento
-Delos - MAYBE - significant mythological importance and also across a long period (including Roman) but the Greek remains are not perhaps "iconic enough"?
-Ephesus - NO - another "multi period" site with Greek elements (Temple of Artemis but what is on show is more Roman - so exclude it here
-Epidaurus - MAYBE - Would have to be primarily for its theatre. There are a lot of these aorund on the List but perhaps this one is the one to choose to represent Greek Drama?I don't know enough to evaluate what is left of its Asceplius v e.g that at Pergamum but taken together these 2 aspects are perphas enough to get the site included?
-Hierapolis (-Pamukkale) - NO - Visited by us last year. Interesting for its "healing centre" apsect but a lot of it is Roman. Lots of tombs but nothing that outstanding. The site should stand or Fall on the Travertine aspect of Pamukkale
-Paphos - NO - Famous mosaics are Roman. Significant "Mythological" location for Ahprodite but extant remains not enough to get it included
-Samos - NO - city going back to very foundations of Greek culture. But is another Acqueduct really needed. Very earl Heraion alos but not a lot left to justify inclusion of it as a single building?
-Tauric Chersonese - NO - Covers Greek, Ro,man Byzantine but nothing outstadning architecturally
-Bassae - NO - Fine building "Temple of Bassae belongs to the first generation of post-Parthenonian edifices" (AB) -but we can't include every fine Greek temple!
-Troy - MAYBE - Iconic status both in Mythology and in Archaeological history. Undoubtedly a site of long occupation. Whether it is "The" Troy of legend - who knows.

So YES = 5 (Acropolis, Delphi, Mycenae, Olympia and Agrigento) NO = 8 MAYBE = 4 (Vergina, Delos, Epidaurus and Troy)
It depends I guess on how many Greek sites we are going to take - none of these is an "essential" but all are worth having!

I am missing Cilento here. I know it's not a "Greek only" site, but it's temples in Paestum are even better than those in Agrigento. Despite that my selection is:
- Bassae (once the ugly tent is gone everybody will see it's in much better shape than the Acropolis)
- Olympia (the games)
- Agrigento (better than all I saw in Greece itself)
- Mycenae (reperesent a powerfull civilization and not in bad shape)

OK -- I'd been avoiding some of the cultural topics because of the time it would take to go through them, but this should be pretty quick. I'd vote for the following:

Acropolis, Athens -- iconic symbol of Greek culture
Delphi -- "religious centre and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world"
Mycenae/Tiryns -- represents the Mycenaean civilization, which dominated the eastern Mediterranean world from the 15th to the 12th century B.C
Olympia -- for the original Olympic Games, which have now become a global tradition
Troy -- substantial archeological remains of the Greeks in Anatolia, and the traditional site of a battle immortalized in ancient literature
