UNAM - for its modernist architecture, murals, and status as an active campus.

"a unique example of 20th-century modernism integrating urbanism, architecture, engineering, landscape design and fine arts with references to local traditions, especially to Mexico's pre-Hispanic past. The ensemble embodies social and cultural values of universal significance and is one of the most significant icons of modernity in Latin America." UNESCO

My selection:
Plantin Moretus - for its importance in printing (although it won't make to my top 200)
Museum island - museology and great collection of worldwide artifacts
Coimbra and Alcala (maybe) as university ensembles but I'd go for UNAM to include modernism (although it won't make my top 200 either)
Jantar Mantar - astronomy (but again won't make my top 200)

I feel other WHS could easily represent good examples also for education while representing other categories, otherwise IMO it would be too selective to narrow down to my top 200.

Again I think I am pretty close to Assif on this.
Whilst I don't think it is the best example of an educational institution, I think the Bauhaus really should be included. This would be my only must have modern architecture site. By some distance the most important and influential site of its kind. Trumps UNAM for influence even if UNAM is perhaps a more coherent ensemble.
Jantar Mantar seems great to me and has a different take on education.
Salamanca is the best of the European University cities that are currently inscribed, and brings other urban charms.
Plantin Moretus I love this site and will happily support it, and books have a a pretty decent impact on the world I guess :)

For educational category, I think no site really deserve to be in Top 200. Strange that 3 universities that have been inscribed for its modern architecture value are in this category too. For modern architecture, Bauhaus is one of the top in my mind but will wait to decide when compare with other iconic sites eg. Sydney Opera House, Brasilia and Rietveld Shroder House

Have visited 10 of these (not Dengfeng, Cordoba (Arg), Monticello or Struve.) It is a bit of a "mixed group" within which is difficult to identify a single set of selection criteria. There are some clear "Universities"/Educational establishment but also a few "odds and ends" such as where "science" developed (e.g Struve and Jantar Mantar!), buildings built as or turned into "Musea"/exhibition halls (Museum Island, Plantin Moretus and REB)) The Universities can be assessed both as buildings and because of their intellectual/cultural significance across the centuries. Some of the sites extend way beyond the University (E.g Salamanca). Two sites including religious education (Dengfeng and Cordoba) have been included - but there are of course others such as the Vihara at Pahapur, Takht -e Bahi and Taxila and also Christian monasteries which were seats of education and learning.

An awful lot of "MAYBE's" which need to be considered both against other similar sites in other categories and in terms of how we stand in cutting back to c 400.

Alcala - No. Not influential/significant enough - though the 16C Paraninfo (Examination auditorium) is very fine!
Bauhaus – MAYBE. It, of course, covers a number of buildings beyond the Art School. Together they are probably significant enough to overtake other possible "between the wars" 20th C buildings in other categories (e.g Rietveld etc). It should be reviewed later together with the full range of such 20C sites
UNAM - MAYBE. It is a bit idiosyncratic in terms of being rather "Mexican" and not easily fitting into any greater movement but probably justifies itself (just!!) on its combined architectural/artistic/educational merits and non European siting – review later, together with other 20C WHS
Caracas - NO. Not special enough
Dengfeng – MAYBE. Should be considered in comparison with other Sacred Mountains
Jantar Mantar – MAYBE. There are lots of WHS with "Astronomical" aspects – I quite like this one for covering early the 18C period and non Western science.
Cordoba (Argentina) – NO Though reading its details has almost convinced me! We have a lot of Latin American "mission related" sites anyway
Monticello - MAYBE - has to stand or fall on its architecture rather than as an educational establishment. Is there anything better in the Neo-classical style? I genuinely don't know.
Museum Island Berlin – MAYBE. The concept of a Museum Complex is worth recognising – it could just slip in if room allows.
Plantin Moretus - NO. A very fine building with fine contents but not significant enough on its own. As a printing works it could possibly better claim a place as a representative of the spread of knowledge via that technology i.e as part of the "Industrial" category?
Royal Exhibition Building – NO. Not significant in World Terms
Salamanca – YES. But primarily because it has so much else of which the University is only a part
Struve Geodetic Arc – NO. Not significant enough as a major scientific development
Coimbra - NO. Not significant enough

I think placing Hahoe and Yangdong here (or Indigenous Religions) would make as much or more sense than "Asian Cities". Though assuming that it may not make the Top 400 it does not make much difference, but just a clarification acknowledging the educational importance of this site since it includes 3 Confucian Academies.

"The villages were located to provide both physical and spiritual nourishment from their surrounding landscapes. They include residences of the head families, together with substantial timber framed houses of other clan members, also pavilions, study halls, Confucian academies for learning." UNESCO

At this point, I completely support:

Salamanca - agree with other posts
UNAM - architecture, murals, living space (active)
Monticello - architecture/design

In general, I agree with the other comments here. It's a weird category, with a lot of different facets.

I'd definitely support Museum Island in Berlin - not necessarily for Educational aspects, but for being a series of monuments purposefully built as museums (instead of being existing buildings that were reconfigured to act as museums, such as the Louvre). Basically, it created an island of knowledge in the middle of Berlin, which seems quite unique to me.

Jantar Mantar is another one I would unequivocally support, for a pre-industrial astronomical site.

With regards to universities: Alcalá, Salamanca, Coimbra all have merits, but the true university cities that would deserve "Top 200" status are Oxford and Cambridge, in my opinion, which are not on the list. So I'd select none of them.

For the modernist buildings, the educational aspect is not the most relevant aspect I believe. Bauhaus is certainly an important site - I'm hesitating a bit with Tel Aviv. Between UNAM and Caracas: the Central library of UNAM is of course well-known, but the University City of Caracas overall looks more spectacular... so undecided between them.

I'd go with the following:

Jantar Mantar -- shows the advancement of astronomical instruments outside the Western world in the 18th century
Museum Island Berlin -- highlights Western European attempts to collect and preserve art and artifacts for the benefit of the people
Salamanca -- represents a European university town, rich in history and home to a significant school of thought during the Renaissance
