I am a bit confused Savoy and Chengde were palaces or royal villas. Should we seperate residence of royalty from commoner?

This is actually quite a tough one for me there are a lot of residences from the first half of the 20th century, many that I would hold in high regard, but I don't really think the list should be too skewed towards this area. Are examples of the houses of the very wealthy worth including in and of themselves, especially as there will be the palaces of the astronomically wealthy and plenty of residences in cities that will cover most aspects in the list above. The only ones
I could think of putting forward here are ones of extreme artistic merit.

Villa Romana del Casale, seems a justifiable inclusion for me, and I guess it probably wouldn't make the final cut in roman archaeological sites. The amount and quality of mosaics would seem a good cause for inclusion to me.

I don't know enough about the merits or otherwise of the Chinese sites, do they bring anything of great interest that other Chinese urban sites won't already cover?

In the battle of homes of Italian aristocrats I guess the Medici villas would probably be the better of the two, the Savoy Palaces don't really do much for me. But to be honest I can't imagine Florence not making the list and is it really important to have an example of specific rural Renaissance residences, when an entire city will be put forward as a similar example?

Of the generally art nouveau entries I think the Guadi sites would bring more to the list than just residences, though I personally would think Stoclet would perhaps be the perfect example, I do also love the Horta sites, here I think there is justification in having one of these sites put forward, it is almost a pinacle of European design, and I think as a trend it is probably widely regarded as 'beautiful' by a broad range of people? They are all great but I think for sheer breadth the Guadi site should get it.

Now the modernist sites. Those that have read my reviews may know I am a huge fan of this style, but is it justified to definitely have an example put forward in our 200 must see sites? To my mind I think it should be a tentative yes, they show the adaptation of industrial design in domestic settings (though I think the Bauhaus would be the better example for this) but they also are representative of a time when artistic design really started to have a worldwide outlook and impact. Of those currently listed I think the most important and representative of those points is the Tugendhat Villa, however the most important example isn't currently on the list and that is the Villa Savoy in the upcoming le Corbusier nomination. So my argument would be to have the Tugendhat Villa as a place holder to be replaced by the works of le Corbusier if/when they get on the list.

Looking forward there are also the works of Frank Lloydd Wright on the horizon, which I love, though I'm not sure if they would be as influential as le Corbusier on a worldwide scale, also having too many future inscriptions may open up a can of worms.

So in short my nominations are:

Guadi sites
Villa Tugendhat (as a place holder for le Corbusier works in future)

Confucius sites better suits different category (will come up again at Indigenous religion).
Chengde is reasonably interesting (purpose-made mix of gardens, pagodas, temples and palaces from various regions of China); would be a Maybe for me.

I too wonder how many of these will be able to survive the cull to the Top 200 list. Here are my selections for this category:

1. Works of Antoni Gaudi -- spectacular imaginative modernist architecture with influences from nature and Gothic style; highlights include Sagrada Familia, Parque Güell, Casa Mila, and Casa Batlló
2. Medici Villas and Gardens -- Italian country homes and gardens designed to be in harmony with nature; influenced residences throughout Italy and Europe
3. Major Town Houses -- excellent example of Art Nouveau-style residences (designed by Victor Horta)
4. Rietveld Schröderhuis -- represents the modern movement of architecture well; excellent use of space inside the house
5. Mountain Resort, Chengde -- represents Chinese integration of buildings into the natural environment

If the Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings had been inscribed prior to this exercise, I would have definitely included them.
