Independence Hall & State of Liberty are both pro-liberty symbols and symbols of the USA - choose one?
Bikini Atoll & Genbaku dome are both (anti-)nuclear symbols - choose one?
Auschwitz is the no.1 genocide symbol
Australian Convict Sites are important for explaining the more recent history of Australia
Robben Island is very recognizeable, but maybe less iconic than the ones above
Belem is the odd one out, but still worth including for the link to the Age of Discovery

Perhaps because I'm an optimist, but if I were to show the best the world has to offer to the little green man, I wouldn't choose the genocide, nuclear bomb, slavery, etc whs as top 200. I feel they are very important elements on the list mostly for the sake of the human race not to forget what wrongs/evil we're capable of doing/creating. But they won't be on my top 200 cultural/natural whs.

My selection:

Statue of Liberty (iconic, largest present in the world, great landmark/product of industrial genius - on par with the Eiffel Tower - which is the reasoning I followed so as to leave out industrial heritage sites)
Belem (I chose already in another category)

Genbaku Dome- memorializes the moment man could destroy nations, memorial to the victims of nuclear weapons & part of the movement to eliminate them
Auschwitz - memorializes and educates the public about the Holocaust and genocide
State of Liberty - symbolic monument to liberty, freedom, and democracy and eventually migrants and refugees seeking exactly that

I would choose the same three memorials/monuments as kkanekhan and winterkjm for the exact same reasons.

Bring Belem forward to a different category (which is religious structure, Christian)

Auschwitz Birkenau - YES - Represents events of worldwide significance in the form of tangible rather than associative remains
Australian Convict Sites - NO - a bit too "Regional" in significance i.e initial European population of Australia
Belem - NOT APPLIC here
Bikini Atoll - NO - "Nuclear bombs" really only need 1 site
Genbaku Dome - YES - Has its elements of "manipulation" but the location of the first explosion during a war of a Nuclear Bomb seems worth recording
Independence Hall - NO - the site wasn't of course created/altered by what happened there so it is too "associative" in my view.
Robben Island - NO - of regional importance as a location of "tyranny" in action but not oustanding enough
Statue of Liberty - YES - enough to cover USA as "land of opportunity and freedom" and the enormous changes brought about in world terms by the Trans-Atlantic migration from Europe

Almost nothing different, pretty clear for this one.
