I thought it might be worthwhile to list all the sites on which we seem to agree they should be out of the race. If anyone thinks one of these sites should be reconsidered we could discuss it here.

A good idea, but don't be too quick writing them off as we're still discussing most categories (though the list above seems quite safe).

Whenever a discussion in a category is coming to the end, I'll summarize it and add it here (I also liked to save the reasons why we choose them):
http://www.worldheritagesite.org/allbyrank.php

There are 3 groups: the first are the Yes, the second ones the Maybe's and the third the others (the same one as you're aiming at).

National History Park Haïti should be in by my account, the palace category still isn't properly discussed I believe

I just included sites for which we discussed all relevant categories, so sites that we unanimously found less promising that have more than one category still have the chance with the next bunch of sites.
For example: Tassili n'Ajjer, Hierapolis-Pamukkale and Ujung Kulon National Park should be in as they could be rated higher in another category.

With a heavy heart (they're still WHS) but I wouldn't rank any of these sites as top 200 for sure

I'd like to put in a plug for the Abbey of St. Gall. The library at the abbey contains an extensive, world-renowned collection of medieval literature, and is a prime example of the tie between monasticism and record-keeping. For me, the library is the prime reason to put forward this recommendation.

Could we keep the discussion in the various other threads for now? It seems a bit confusing to be discussing here as well as on the "original" threads. I'd have the one or the other that I'd like to put forward, e.g. Goa.

A good idea. So just use this list to see if you have any reservations on the sites that are about to be out. If you do start a discussion at the category page. I will erase Goa and St. Gall for now.

I'd like to put in a plug for Phong Nha. I got vote from Assif as well as me. It is oldest major karst(Palaeozoic period) in Asia. Similarly it has largest cave. It has enormous bio- diversity and beautiful karst feature.

I would definitely save Summer Palace, Beijing. I chose it over Suzhou as a great example of Chinese gardens and architecture ensemble. I'd include it in my top 200 actually

Hani is as beautiful as Philippines terraces. It is also better maintained.

I also want to save (at least in early stages) some national parks.
http://www.worldheritagesite.org/forums/index.php?action=vthread&forum=11&topic=1934& page=2#msg12279

Pitons Reunion (at least we have to keep one volcanic plugs, another is already out of the list). I don't think anyone voted for Surtsey, Canterbury (so it should be out of the list)

I can see fr4nc1sc4 now added his/her vote and that for most categories some of his/her choices are sites that noone else voted for. The list is long:
Fertö, Mt. Carmel, Semmering, Modern Berlin, Baroque churches Philippines, Olomouc, Sacri Monti, Mt Etna, Sangiran, Bethany, Santiago de Compostela France, Daphni etc., Canterbury, Reichenau and Wörlitz.
I am by no way criticizing, in fact I am impressed by the originality. The question is how to proceed. So far I have tried to mostly include sites on the Out of the Race list noone supported. Only for the categories Els summarized I additionally took off sites with the support of a single member only. Otherwise, if there was support for any of the site, even by a single member, I took them off the list. Since fr4nc1sc4 has an extensive selection that does not match what other members voted for, I would be reluctant to do the same. I think it would be more rewarding for fr4nc1sc4 to explain his/her choices for those sites and see whether these explanations bring him/her support from other members. If any of these sites get supported by additional members I will take them out of the list. Does this seem ok to everyone?

Assif:
sites that noone else voted for:..., Modern Berlin, Olomouc

Two sites that I know well and appeal to me intensely, but I wouldn't second them, I just don't think they are outstanding enough on a global scale. So I think that your assessment seems justifiable to me Assif. Though I would be delighted to hear why someone else may love these sites as much as I do, especially Olomouc I always enjoy reminiscing about my old stomping grounds :)
