Rearranging the countries topics

PS - I note that we don't have a "country" topic for Albania (nor for lots of other countries). Might it be worth rationalising the titles of these country topics to adopt a standard nomenclature and alpha sequence rather than the various approaches which have "grown like Topsy" and begin to use them more widely as a "store" for "country related" matters which often get lost (as with this one) in other topics?

The only solution that I can think of at the moment would be to create a subforum for each country.
So instead of the main label 'Visiting', we would get a label 'Countries'.
Under that label, each country would get its own 'corner', so a country could hold several topics (a lot of the posts from How do I get to visit Aldabra? could be moved there as well).

The disadvantage of that solution is that it would end in a very long list in the sidebar of the Forum homepage.

Any better ideas to solve this?

Or I could create a sticky post with an alphabetical index at the top? Would that help already?

I wasn't thinking of anything as complex (Sophisticated?) as this.
My main "concern" was that the Country topic titles are all of a different format e.g "Future UK approach to WHS", "Japan", "China world Heritage", "Mexico WHS". And also that many countries don't have a "stub" which perhaps encourages people to use existing topics (or create extra "odd" ones!) when a country topic might be better.
Standardise titles with Country name first and either nothing extra or a standard phrase "China - General WHS matters"? ) and in alpha order - also create a topic for every country to encourage use? No need to introduce a new "sub forum" -just leave under countries"? Interesting to see which countires have no posts about their "WHS life"!
I can see no way round the fact that many posts might belong under more than one topic e.g additions to the T List. This is better left under additions to T List as are e.g matters concerned with future WHCs. One just has to use the search facility- perhpas sometimes it might be worth adding a post under the country with a link to the post under another sub forum?
The country topic links could then be added to the Country pages in the main site. For instance -we have a topic from 2009 titled "Ancient Plovdiv". Only those of us who have been "around" a long time might know of/remember this - but it (IMO!!) contains useful information about Bulgaria and its WHS - hence i cross referred to it the other day - there are other examples. We shoud/could see the "country topic" as a prime entry point for info about sites in a country and encourage its use rather than intorducing ever more topics which just get "lost". Alternatively topics like that could be linked back to the WHS or TWHS page of the site concerned??

They are already (for those that have topics)

Solivagant:
and in alpha orde

that's a problem: the topics just are shown in chronological order, I can only manipulate them into alphabetical order if I put them one level higher

Solivagant:
Standardise titles with Country name first and either nothing extra or a standard phrase

This is the easiest to start with

Yes - I hadn't picked up that they are in the "News and links" section - position based on date last updated (??) which means it might be way down but at least it is there if one knows that it will be so!! However - I have just tried US and UK and they don't work. - exec /usr/www/cgi-bin/php5.cgi

These are missing a 's' after 'http' (forgot to update those after we moved the whole site to https)
But it would indeed be better to give the country forum link a more prominent spot on the country page

I've created a new link for all countries with a forum page.

See https://www.worldheritagesite.org/country/UK for a country with a forum page
Or for a country without one yet : https://www.worldheritagesite.org/country/Armenia

It works for all countries, but due to caching it will take a few hours to show at each and every country page

P.S.: I am still in the process of moving country topics from other subforums (such as How to ... Aldabra) to this list

If you find the country subtopic gets too long or unwieldy with a topic for every country, you could always create another subtopic for regions (i.e. North American and Caribbean WHS; Latin American WHS; European WHS; African WHS; Middle Eastern WHS; Asian WHS; Australian and Oceanian WHS) which the countries could be nested under.
