Canada is celebrating its 150th anniversary of Confederation this year in 2017. As part of the celebrations, Parks Canada is offering free admission in 2017 to all of its parks, which include all 38 national parks, 171 national historic sites, and three marine conservation areas. This is a great deal for anyone considering a visit to North America this year.

I ordered mine in early January and just got it.

I'd apply as soon as you can because demand has been high. It will take time to process it.

Looks like an awesome trip, sveinh, and I am rather envious. That said, I think it would work better in the Canada topic rather than Peru. Hope you enjoy your trip, and if you're interested in any recommendations on the Alberta/Montana part of your trip, I was just there earlier this month.

If you went all the way up to Fort Smith, you should have taken the extra time to go to Nahanni.

Drive to Fort Simpson. There you can get a flight from Simpson Air can you can do a one day tour of Nahanni.

Nahanni is one of the greatest national parks in the world.

I can imagine Nahanni is beautiful, but we obviously haven't done our homework.
We did a flight in Wood Buffalo, but it was an impulse - and we also entered the park on the ground.
In Nahanni we found no roads and we didn't search for flights. The only review is about canoeing and we're not really canoers.
I Guess we have to have "a touchdown" to really see Nahanni? Not only views from a airplane

Nahanni is mainly for rafting I think. It has no roads leading into the park and you can only get there with an arranged tour which is expensive. They can of course just drop you off and pick you up days later while you camp if that's your thing, make buddies with the bears and cuddle a little.

You can prebook Fort Smith by emailing the hotels. There are 3 I believe with one doing renovations.

There are no roads into Nahanni. The only way in is by float plane. The day trips do land. There is a landing spot just upriver of Virginia falls. We also landed on a lake near the Cirque du Unclimbables. In each case we got out of the plane for at least an hour.

Your price will depend on the number of the people on the flight with you. You usually pay by the flight, not per person.

Here is another company that flies out of Muncho Lake, BC.

They tie the hotel room to the flight in case of bad weather.

I'm glad you and Randi had a good trip across Canada, Svein! I guess you found out about the closure of many of the trails at Waterton while, the park recovers from last year's fire. Still a beautiful place to see, though. I'm amazed how much you fit in during your month-long trip!
